If it was cut down a bit, it could've been his best song

    Week 9
Wolves - The Life of Pablo

And we are back once again folks! It's been a while, we have been blessed by Kanye with a new album since I've lasted posted in this thread, so I think it's essential that I review one of the songs from TLOP. This week it's Wolves [ALBUM VERSION], the one that excludes Vic Mensa & Sia. Everyone loves the OG version, but there are a lot of mixed opinions with the album version which is why we are discussing it this week.

Wolves consists features like Frank Ocean on the outro and Caroline Shaw, one can assume in the background as she doesn't have any lines. A big part of this song was dedicated to Kanye's mother Donda, the last few lines emphasises on that by saying "Life is precious, we found out, we found out." The loss of a life can really put things into perspective on how you value life. This classic beat and the production were created by Kanye, Mike Dean, Sinjin Hawke and Cashmere Cat. f--- me it's amazing, literally 30/10. Great stuff! He got rid of those drums, a great touch to this version. I know a lot of people were fans of it, however I wasn't.

Anyway, let's talk about that infamous 2nd verse which Kanye changed from the original version. It's typical of Kanye to say a lot of humorous lines that aren't to be taken seriously, but that sandwich line kind of interrupted the mood of the song. I've spoken to people that weren't fans of this verse, as it threw them off. But they haven't persuaded me as I grew to really like this verse. After each day and each listen I gradually enjoyed it more. Let's digest the last lines which seems to break down the whole verse:

    Cover Nori in lambs' wool
We surrounded by the f---in' wolves"
"What if Mary was in the club
'Fore she met Joseph with no love?
    Cover Saint in lambs' wool
We surrounded by the f---in' wolves"

Throughout the whole verse Kanye is comparing him and Kim to Jesus' parents Mary and Joseph. They see their children as blessings from God just like Jesus was to this world. The wolves are like the Romans and Pontius Pilate who want to bring them down because they're probably sick of their s--- and feel like they're a bad influence. :') And it's sad how they will eventually be receiving hate because they were 'born famous'. They were born as innocent children and brought up by infamous parents. The lambs wool is a symbol of protection. Kanye like all parents feels responsible for his children.

Wolves is still an amazing track.

HOWEVER, WILL THIS BE THE FINAL VERSION OF WOLVES??? According to Kanye it won't be:

Jakey's Rating: 9/10 - One cannot simply ruin this song, I'm still a huge fan.

    6.5/10

The verses aside from the last part of the 2nd verse literally ruin the song for me. Plus the exclusion of Vic Mensa and Sia just is mind boggling.

@Jakey I wished I had your analytic mind so I could understand the hidden meanings in songs. But anyway I loved frank ocean's verse in this version.also this version sounds more dark and with kanyes lyrics it goes along well with it, though I would like a little more energy from it.
    Overall I give this song a 9/10

Sonically i love it. I like the melodic background singing, the 808 drums, the overall minimal, naked, atmospheric, gloomy, feel of the track.

As for Ye's & Franks performances? I enjoy Ye's singing & lyrics on the first half, sets the mood of the song, & it works with the sound quite well. Then comes the rap verse, instant nosedive. I don't know why Ye thought the track needed a rap verse, felt very unnecessary on a song that feels like it's made for singing. Tons of corny, cringe, pseudo-meaningful lines that just, well, s---. Then comes Franks bit at the end, he did an excellent job, but, sonically his bit sounded rushed & demoish, literally sounded like it was recorded on an old flip phone, song would've been better without it for this reason, imo.

Ehhh 6/10. I can play it & enjoy it, but i'll always favor the OG one, it s----s on this.

OG Wolves is 9.9/10 (by the way it would be interesting to ask people how they rate this version right after the album one)
    This version is 8.2/10.
At first, i was extremely disappointed: i've waited for a full version of this track for almost a year and when i first discovered it on theatre on February 11, i felt like everything i loved about this track had dissapeared : the incredible fusion between Kanye, Sia and Vic, the beat switch to the Vic part, the drums...
(The fact that Koolo and Myke Tyson praised the cdq by saying it was 5:30 of orgasm few days ago made it even worst)...
But i learned to appreciate this version too... It has its own qualities : the voice backing Kanye at the end of his singing part (this should have been in the OG version too!), and a solid rap verse that, of course, we can critisize lyrically but that match perfectly the beat flow-wise...
Plus the prod...is one of the best i've ever heard...really. Top 3 Kanye beats imo
Great song overall, but i still can't understand how Kanye even had the idea of deleting Sia's and Vic's parts when they are both absolutely GOAT
Oh and Frank Ocean was a cool addition

I hope everyone is having a GOOD FRIDAY today!

On this special day I will be concluding the end of Season 1 for this thread/series. I tried to make a song of the day thread which would involve the members a bit more and create some discussion. It started off really well but towards the end it didn't get as active as I would like, it was probably due to my inconsistency of posting weekly. But I wanna thank everyone heaps that have contributed it this thread!!

    Here are the results:
    1st
    [IMG]
Well how about that, a GOOD Friday song making it to the top of the list!

    2nd

Oh s---, the same score, IIRC correctly this was scaled up and CDDF was scaled down.

    3rd

The album version, maybe a controversial one, my rating on maybe to it higher than the overall opinion.

Week 1... this thread started off lit with this song, the Graduation era really is under-appreciated.

    8th

Probably one of the best songs off Yeezus and should have been rated higher than it did imo.

    9th
    [IMG]
Probably the worst song on the list. However it's still great, listened to this a lot in 2015.
