Also a "No" from me. I've explained a number of times why I don't like Inception, so I'll just cheat now and post this review, which shares a lot of my issues with it (And the reviewer here, like myself, was a big fan of The Dark Knight so it's not a matter of being anti-Nolan or anti-Hollywood...just anti-Inception.)

The point isn't to assemble a list. It's to discuss one film at a time. The idea of the "canon" is just to draw people in and let their votes have some sort of meaning. We could do a "list your fav films" thread, but there'd be less discussion.

I disagree entirely. I'd rather see Leo chew on a fun role than overact one that's poorly written and emotionally hollow.

Cotillard so fine in this movie. :wow5:

Saito. You're supposed to feel for Mal too. Fischer's scenes pertaining to the relationship with his dad are extremely corny and by far the worst moments of the film. I'll take watching Cotillard and Leo go back and forth over that any day of the week.

Not when that world is spoon fed to me through some of the most contrived dialogue imaginable. And this is coming from someone who can tolerate things like Prometheus and The Hobbit trilogy just based on the world alone.

"Wait, who's subconscious are we going into exactly?"

^^Countless examples of dialogue like that. Completely takes me out of the film when I can tell that the only purpose of the lines are to guide the audience along.

Apart from the zero gravity scenes with Levitt, the only good action scenes in Inception take place between the 60 and 100 minute mark. The surprise of the opening has worn off, the alley chase is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen, and the snow finale couldn't be any more generic. Total fodder to make the finale more of a spectacle.

I do understand why people love the film, but I can only really stand 40-50 minutes of the entire thing now. Doubt I'll ever watch again.

Glad @Pinhead realized Inception is booty, I think some time last year you still thought it was among Nolan's best.

I'd take Interstellar over this any day, he redeemed himself with that one.

I really enjoy Inception, but is it one of the all time greats? No. Most of the complaints in this thread have plenty of merit (except the ones about Leo's acting, wtf)

around the time inception came out I kind of felt the same as Charliework now, and even remember saying as much to WPG about Leo's roles in inception, shutter island etc.

But it's more of an issue with some of the characters he plays not always his acting.

Inception isn't that great. Shutter Island and Django are I think.

wolf is some of his best work for sure

@captain awesome I thought he was great in Django?

No Narsh, Leo is infallible. No criticism is allowed. He's literally never faltered.

You got really defensive and accused me of having some complex against bros.
It's okay Swizz. No need to get bent out of shape over it.

I've seen more Joaquin Phoenix and PSH than DDL, but that's not a knock on Leo.
He's in a lot of great films and has a lot of great performances. I just think his characters come off really "samey" sometimes.

That was my complaint too when I lumped inception and shutter island together in the past, but as I said it's a bit more nuanced than that. It's the script and direction as well, although that doesn't Leo couldn't have handled it differently as well. Shutter Island performance > Inception

My favorite actors ever are like DDL, Deniro, PSH, and Phoenix

@Narsh imo Leo absolutely has a "type" he's always morally tested, questioning the reality of his universe. I get he isn't the most masculine fellow to paraphrase eddie Murphy which on paper made his casting as an effete Francophile effective... Still, it wasn't a great role to me in that it wasn't playing to his strengths --- and ultimately he wasn't even the movies true villain lol

Like, he wasn't bad, I just didn't find him as compelling as I usually do
