Jun 27, 2015 Idk, I feel like it's a lot less satisfying to have to choose between something like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, rather than having both be discussed in depth and then added (or not) individually. When both are so deserving what's even the point of choosing one? If the overall point is to compile a list/canon of what we consider to be the best/most essential films, then why make it so that some that are deserving can't make it on?
Jun 28, 2015 Yes, I did. No need to be condescending. I'm giving you feedback and saying that (to use the scorsese example) I'd rather have individual threads for each film rather than having some kind of arbitrary debate over which is better and in the end excluding a deserving movie.
Jun 28, 2015 How am I being condescending? I already answered your question. You were asking me to repeat myself. Any debate about some fictional list of best films is arbitrary. I'm not dictating what discussion goes on. I'm merely providing a subject for discussion. Its up to forum goers to decide where it goes. Pretty hilarious that the posters most informed when it comes to film haven't used this thread at all to discuss the movies in question.
Jun 28, 2015 out of curiosity, under what pretense did you choose the two films? I know they're both about american teen culture, but other than that?.... Anyways, Dazed and Confused for me. alright, alright alright. there's less sentimentality, more open script and spontaneous filmmaking, and a better soundtrack. So sick of the theme song in BC but when All Along the Watchtower plays at the party scene in D&C I get excited. everytime. A great abrupt cut to begin the scene too...
Jun 28, 2015 ^nvm my question about how you picked them... read the first page. honestly, i think Raging Bull vrs. Taxi Driver has been done to death, people always comparing the two. And Apocalypse Now vrs. Dr. Strangelove makes no sense lol. like AN vrs platoon or deer hunter or something, sure, but that's pretty generic too. And dr. strangelove vrs another classic, dry comedy like duck soup or arsenic and old lace makes more sense than a war movie, cause it's anything but really.
