Jun 22, 2015 I dunno, man. I still think it could work. It was perhaps just the film choices that alienated people. We had a pretty solid film watching club for a little while back at Studio Leaks and it's where a bunch of us saw Forbidden Games, In The Realm of the Senses, The Imitation Game, amongst others... those 3 being films totally not on my radar. I appreciated the group for that. I also don't think we need to judge a thread based on popularity. There was like 5 of us consistently in that thread, and sometimes only like 2 who saw the film, but it didn't matter, that was enough to keep it going and people could just join in or leave it as they wish. Perhaps starting a week 4 with something that crosses the boundary between 'critically appraised art film you should see' and 'popular well-known film you've been intending to see anyways' would close the gap. Some films to pop up: The Yards, The 25th Hour, Prisoners, Place Beyond the Pines, Schindler's List, Citizen Kane, Hard Eight, Rushmore, Boyhood, Yi Yi, Biutiful, Pan's labyrinth, A Separation, Lost in Translation, Django Unchained, Donnie Darko, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Delicatessen, Paprika Some of those I haven't seen, and i bet a bunch of people on here want to see 'em but haven't done so yet either... Like this if you'd watch one of the film's listed...
Jun 23, 2015 I have no problem giving it another go. I'll make a new thread tomorrow. I also need to see Pan's Labyrinth (and happen to have it on DVD) so we'll try that out.
Jun 23, 2015 We could also try the voting system like we did on SL where each member of the club selects a film and then we each have a vote to decide which film we will watch.
