wait, im smelling the stench of class in this post. cop is mostly a working class profession --as an institution law enforcement may have inherently racist practices and policies, but there's many decent working class men and women who serve with absolutely good intentions.

militarizing police forces is probably wrong. but there are sooo many communities that are outliers - just watch fargo, heh.

This cop was found innocent in the killing of a man he shot in the chest after the man informed him he had a gun and concealed carry permit the same day a young woman was found guilty in killing her boyfriend for sending him mean texts.

if you guys had more strict gun laws you know how this would of gone down?

c----: "hi sir, just stopping you, do you know how fast you were going? btw you look like an illegal, any drugs, firearms, or illegal things I should know about?"

human: "no officer and sorry i was not aware i was speeding"

c----: "oh okay then, well here's a fine s--- skin"

This guy did everything "right." He wasn't aggressive towards the officer. He told him he was licensed to carry. He was following his orders to give him his license and he was shot for it..... this s--- is so disheartening man....

You don't believe in those people... You support politicians that cut their pay... You don't believe in funding cities.

I've been all over Detroit. I've been all over most cities in America... I've been all over cities in impoverished countries.

In my city I live in and own rental properties in the poorest neighborhood.

You're just all the way around ignorant.

you just need to do a single shooting course. the course involves the trainee's threat assesment while he walks through a mock house filled with different coloured targets. anyone who shoots all the black targets is immediately hired, regardless of any kind of mental/physical disabilities they may have.

The majority of NRA members fantasize about shooting a black man 7 times in the chest and having no repercussions when they are squeezing off at the range.

It would be like the NRA standing against shooting trophy animals on safari in Africa.

I wasn't talking about my opinion of your post. I was (clearly) talking about the effect comments like yours have on the national discourse.

Police abolition and reform is the right conversation. "Every cop is a bad person" doesn't belong. Keep the overly emotional generalizations out of it unless you want Blue Lives Matter people to point and say to people on the fence, "see how f---ing stupid they are?" You made a legitimate point of view look absolutely ridiculous.

What part of what I said reads like "gotta hear both sides" to you? Because you saw the words 'both' and 'sides' next to each other? You have a special way of picking out little phrases ("iPhone," "both sides") and extracting things I didn't say and don't believe. Who's not understanding who here?

Keep telling yourself you don't have any blind spots. That's the best way to approach a complex issue.

By the way, I've said in other threads that I think the police force should be abolished and re imagined. We don't disagree on that point. My point is that you should drop the sanctimony, because it makes that conversation harder to have. Stupid comments like "every cop is a bad person" don't serve anyone.

yeah his stance on police is very weird. like fair enough i call em pigs and will avoid them at any cost because where I live, they in general are just c----. But my stance is that the institution itself isn't run well - I'm very vocal, but i'd never say that all cops are bad people because they chose to be police lmfao.

I highly doubt a music reviewer would be doing any kind of crimes to warrant being mistreated by cops, so all i can imagine was that Paul was stopped in his PT cruiser for a random DUI test and the cop wasn't friendly to him, so now he gives them bad reviews online.

Yeah, that's never going to happen. Can't look at the police like it's rap basement. Can't be patient while they shutdown and make upgrades

Ok well - that's not really a receipt for my point, and doesn't justify wildly condemning a huge segment of blue collar workers. Bobby Kennedy was both a champion of civil rights while saddling up to law enforcement and making them allies. (Admittedly perhaps off course but nevertheless worth mentioning)

Edit - fwiw I've absolutey known my fair share of arrogant, ridiculous bros who signed up for the wrong reasons. There's definite challenges that need addressing but exorbitant rhetoric isn't helpful beyond echo chambering

I'm not even joking... Some American police departments give applicants IQ tests and if they score to high, rule them out for hiring them as police officers.

You see the problem unfortunately was he was exercising his constitutional right to own a firearm while being black.

first of all let me say how sorry i am that you were home on a saturday night complaining about me
i frankly am not worried what you thought of my post. there are thousands of people and many serious organizations all over the country working toward an eventual goal of police abolition
how is the wrong conversation? the conversation i guided us into was about abolition vs. reform, which is a pretty thorny issue, don't you think?
this is idiotic "gotta hear both sides" nonsense. there's nothing i don't "understand" on the other side of this. and no, i'm sorry, complaining about police tactics is not the same as cops murdering people.
