Jun 22, 2017 You probably live in Copland with Harvey Keitel, Michael Rapport, Rsy Liotta and Stallone. In Alaska they are constantly begging people to join the APD and State Troopers... Lots of our cops come from other states. My dad's good friend (and one of two active cops I know) was a 45 year old rookie after being a logger in Washington State his whole adult life... He ended up arresting a famous spree killer by raming his stolen jeep off the road and destroying his police cruiser as it got riddled with bullets and was promoted to Homicide detective right away. Cool guy... Doesn't seem to be a prick like most cops.

Jun 23, 2017 I would agree with this but cops who are also veterans scare the s--- out of me. I feel like a lot of times, they try to input their military training into their police work and it just doesn't work.

Practically and politically, I think it's more effective to pursue incremental change - throwing bombs isn't nearly as effective as it is cathartic. Vietnam War wasn't stopped by the protests, etc. Like, there are plenty of institutions that should be entirely overhauled. But they won't be lol. And the consequences of raging boldly exacerbate the problems already out there. It's alarming to me how Trump and the Republican Party are splintering unions, dividing working class constituents that have voted Democratic for half a century. I'm not trying to poo poo being outraged, defiant or #resistance. But the obvious tactic is working with politicians and police on reform.
