    First listen thoughts from last night: One of the albums strongest and most refreshing qualities is definitely the fact that Jay-Z is practicing some restraint. The last decade he's basically been trying to fit into whatever sound is popular at the time, and usually relies on larger than life production that almost always overshadows him. Glad the album is short instead of bloated and Jay-Z is returning to production he is comfortable with, it's great to hear him make music without awkwardly trying to appeal to younger audiences. That being said, this definitely had a bit of that familiar Jay-z bravado that he's basically been coasting on the last decade which slowed the album down, but also a lot of confessionals and legitment effort that makes this feel immediately better than MCHG or BP3. Good to hear him turn inward a bit more so he actually sounds relatable, and looking forward to listening more this weekend

    This is easily his the best album since American Gangster. A toned down jay z rapping about his sins and letdowns in life on a soulful production is the best thing we could have gotten from him at this point of his career.

    don't know about this one.
    On half of the tracks he sounds like he's just lazy freestyling and talking off beat with uninspired lyrics to a bunch of No ID instrumentals
    and on the other hand
    some f---ing gems.... Story Of OG, Bam, Marcy Me and Moonlight are innovative and banging
