Dec 26, 2018 Why are the drop kick and close line such highly regarded moves in Japan? @Pinhead @Big Dangerous
Dec 26, 2018 What you been watching? Rocky/Excalibur/Chuck Taylor/rando wrestlers like Chase Owens and Chris Sabin have all filled in. I re-watched Omega/Naito from last year (top 5 all time) with Rocky and Don, and Hiromu/Ishimori from this year (now 5*) with Kelly and Sabin. Stan Hansen. Huuuuuuuge star in Japan. All Japan had Misawa and Kobashi doing it in their huge matches (check out misawa/hansen) so it's something that wrestlers today carried on with. They built quote unquote strong style so the style reflects it. In the WWE there is both a clothesline and lariat, depending on who does it. The clothesline itself is just a move they do in transition, wrestlers work in multiples but in the WWE they work in 3's. Clothesline, clothesline, move. Cena for instance has the double shoulder tackle into the back suplex. The clothesline isn't really a flashy move, but the lariat involves both guys giving their all to sell the effects of it. JBL'S clothesline from h--- is a lariat, an actual clothesline would never end a match. It's not just for transitional purposes, it's to cause a shift in momentum because when done right, it does look devastating. As for the dropkick, it's the same principle. When Okada or Omega hit theirs it's genuinely awe inspiring. You watch the old All Japan matches and it's like the V Trigger in how crazy it looked. In America it's just a move. Edit Okada also only pulls out the dropkick near the end of a match, makes it feel a lot more important because when he hits it things go into another gear for him.
Dec 26, 2018 Not sure about drop kick but Stan Hansen knocked MFers out with his lariat , so that’s probably why
Dec 26, 2018 Chris? I think is his name His stupid whiney high pitch voice and accent is annoying enough but when he goes into these long monologues about the history of puro and the competitors awkwardly right in the middle of action it’s so weird I hate it
Dec 26, 2018 Dude yes, I was just watching Tanahashi vs okada from the g1 and it was so annoying, I love kevin Kelley but I think I'm about to start watching with Japanese commentary
Dec 27, 2018 Chris Charlton. He's is a translator who is mainly used to supplement the english broadcast by translating the Japanese promos in real time. He's actually also a historian on Japanese wrestling and wrote a great book on the Tokyo Dome. I think he is good in small doses but I agree he should never be the #2 announcer, even on the smaller shows. He's best as a guy in the background (not even as a consistent third announcer) to translate the promos and supplement the broadcast with some historical info. I said this to @Pinhead when we were watching the Tag finals, but man I think Rocky Romero is really great in that spot. When Don can't be there (and unless they are going to keep using Excalibur) I think Rocky should always be in there is Kevin Kelly.
Dec 27, 2018 I was watching Ospreay and Tanahashi vs Golden Lovers. @Big Dangerous you were right on point with what you said about that Chris guy.
Dec 29, 2018 Forgot if I posted this, it's Cody and Brandi as Naked Snake and The Boss from metal gear, I think a few weeks ago
Dec 31, 2018 How in the h--- do I watch this stuff? I am admittedly uneducated about "New" New Japan Pro Wrestling. I know very little about the 1990's Archives. I've always wanted a way to get into all of it.
Dec 31, 2018 New Japan World, their streaming service. I'd recommend just looking up big matches first to see if you're interested, I'm sure links for Wrestle Kingdom will be posted and that's the best show for any first time watcher. Short of deaths or serious injury, this should be one of the greatest shows of all time. Omega/Jericho is a WWE style match done to its highest level, that's a good one for non fans.
Jan 1, 2019 New Japan world streaming service. It’s easy. English commentary for all the big shows Buy now, their biggest show of the year is in a few days and you can look up promos and videos on YouTube to get you acquainted with the wrestlers and feuds Will be the best decision you’ve ever made as a wrestling fan
Jan 1, 2019 I rarely watch BTE but I’m so glad I was awake for this. I really really really hope this is successful
