Hip hop will never peak. We say 90's - 00's was the peak. The new generation will claim this is the peak. Hip hop is forever changing and growing. We might go through a dry spell but hip hop will always bounce back. -

ok im super late to this topic but ive been away w no internet for a week and couldnt find any thread discussing it so bear w me
so basically some scientists or whatever found out hip hop is now the most dominant genre in the us
The genre has been growing and growing for 30 years, with a lot of funeral prophecies along the way. One of the biggest reasons why it's been evolving all the time, is it's disdain for its past, and the rebel spirit that rock didnt manage to keep alive. Whereas a majority of big rock bands romanticise its past, and have no problems paying dues, mainstream hip hop tends to throw the earlier generations the middle finger and do what they want. This can be traced from p---- C giving the east coast hip hop name and roots the middle finger, all the way to Young Thug who defied any sort of unwritten rap rules that was still in effect earlier this decade.
So now that hip hop is the current most established genre, will it be too established for new rebellious, revolutionary acts to associate with the genre? An example that might be a sign of this is Lil Uzi, who doesn't want to be associated as a rapper at all, even if he's a part of the rap industry, and mainly works with rappers and hip hop (trap) producers.
Also the trap sound has been in the forefront for over a decade now, and I don't feel there's been as much innovation within the soundscape lately. I still feel like 808 drums is the helvetica of drums, but im curious as to what the next sound will beLast edited: Jul 31, 2017Oldboy, Nazir, Ordinary Joel and 2 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -
