Music is all about taste. Everyone prefers what they grew up listening to. Rather it's our grand parents, parents or even us. High school kids these days bump migos and can't quote a jay z line. And probably wouldn't bump half the s--- we call "the golden age" but we look at the new age of hip hop in the same way they look at what we came up on.

how many times do i have to say this lol

this thread topic is based off research on music consumption that finds hip hop to be the currently most consumed genre in the US. which means its more popular than ever. this isnt a question about case by case, person to person consumer taste.

Just gotta hope that the future generation rappers wont try to keep recreating what has been popular lately, and instead try to keep evolving, but yeah popularity wise this might be it
Who knows which genre will peak next but whichever creates the next hottest bangers/even dance songs might become super popular

do u think rap has more room to evolve compared to other genres? i feel like there still might be a way to create a even higher popularity wave

idk rapping in itself is simply vocal performance with focus on rhythm over melody, which has evolved into a gray zone where u cant really define it as one or the other w acts like thug n future

i think this needs to and/or will be separated from hip hop which is the genre and cultural background that popularized it

i think its definitely innovated music by incorporating rhythm & cadence in vocals in a way that hadnt been seen otherwise, but if it keeps going in the same direction its eventually just gnna be singing again

theres always more room to grow, but its more a question about the new generation wanting to continue the genre or not. theres always gnna be more innovative artists, and now that hip hop doesnt have any defined demographic anymore, the new artists might want to assoicate themselves w something different

That's what i really meant like rap as a genre isn't really tied into any style or any instruments like some other genres may be, maybe not that strictly but i still feel like that may be where it has the essential amount of room to wiggle and evolve, but who knows
inb4 we get some orchestra rap s---

but like other people said, yeah it is.

It's the main genre of music you'll hear on the radio or in modern culture. It's also influencing other genres, causing them to change styles.

Well if you're just looking at impact and reach, how can Rap pre-high speed internet compete with current Rap? There was a time when radio, TV and print were the main ways to learn about new artists and projects. Now, you have social media and everyone and their mother has a project out for every day of the week. It's easier to connect with people. It's easier for artists to be influenced by other regions.
