andre's verse on return of the g and y'all scared. i'll never forget the first time i heard those. that's not to say his other verses on that album aren't great, but those 2 especially stick out to me.

the wu tang album also never gets old to me. that CD is magical. what made wu-tang great is that they have similar styles. therefore, they all meshed well. rap groups work better/best when the rappers don't have styles that are very different from each other

Love this list and the small write-ups, I'm a NY sewage rat so you already know every Wu & Co project is ingrained in my memory haha. I'll always love 90s Rap.

I have a feeling I know what #1 will be but I'm curious what are the other 4?

Not if a lot of it doesn't hold up when you listen to it 15 years later.

    also @TimmyT , @Fire Squad and @BigCountry since u all seem interested

new drop, moving into top 5....this is probably where the list takes the biggest jump. I LOVE all of the remaining albums and have listened to them the most heavy of everything

Makaveli - The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory

I don't know if this will be a popular pick...but Killuminati is my favorite Tupac album for lots of reasons. I like how Pac dumped the worn out 90s west-coast sound for a lot of the album in favor of the dark gloomy instrumentals...I don't know if it's just my own projection because of the hysteria surrounding the album but it sounds so eerie to me and I love the subject matter. There's just something about the album that makes you feel like it's multi-layers thick. I feel like a lot of the best tracks on this album are underappreciated in Tupac's discography. I wrote a speech last semester about Tupac and this album is were I drew the most inspiration.
Essential tracks; Bomb First, Hail Mary, To Live and Die in LA, Blasphemy, Life of an Outlaw, Me and My Girlfriend, Against All Odds

Essential tracks are basically irrelevant at this point because I love these entire albums

    J-Dilla - Donuts

This is Dilla's most complex, immaculate magnum opus. The emotion he's able to evoke in me as a listener with this combination of chops and samples is awesome. The majority of these instrumentals are embedded in my mind. This is the ultimate album to listen to while you study or when you just wanna relax and feel some type of way. I don't know what else to say, it's just an album that draws you in.
Essential tracks; my favorites are Waves, Time The Donut of the Heart, Two Can Win, Gobstopper, U-Love, Last Donut of the Night....really though this s--- is so fantastic

    LISTEN TO THIS s---

also thanks @TylerWaves for spoiling this one

The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die

PLOT TWIST. Throwing ya'll a curve ball with this one...Ready to Die is in fact not my favorite rap album. Biggie is the primary reason why I chose to limit the 20 spots to only one artist per album (excluding Wu Tang Clan) because both this album and Life After Death are in my top 5 of all time...it pains me not to include LAD in this spot instead of RTD because honestly it has the higher highs overall and I thought Biggie developed into a better artist and storyteller...but you can't go wrong with this album. This is the most essential rap record ever imo...
Essential tracks; Gimme the Loot, Machine Gun Funk, Juicy, Everyday Struggle, Big Poppa, Unbelievable, Suicidal Thoughts

final post will be my top 2 :fkcurry:

This list is the stereotypical hip hop head top albums list but more than a few classics in here regardless
