yeah, he didnt hop on the pop rap bandwagon even after hating on it or has a deal with call of duty or is now collabing with trap artists like 2chainz now that trap is whats successful or anything like that.

In his older music it was always either personal or exaggerated slapstick for comedic effect a la south park or something along those lines. I listened to Eminem a long time before Recovery and its weird that you say that because if you actually knew anything about Recovery it has some of his ~edgiest~ lyrics as well. That is simply subjective. Those are two different statements. He's a throw back because he will say what he wants to say regardless WITHOUT worrying about political correctness. I don't think that can be denied, it isn't a case of musical finesse or quality final product. That is a separate argument and irrelevant to the context of my main point.

He said whor- back then is the bottom line. Just like he would do now in 2017. That's really all. Because he doesn't f---ing care lol. Whether is is 'forced' not and it was more natural back then is completely separate to my statement and it another debate altogether.
