Both 3rd person military stealth games. Both acclaimed. But both focus on different things. Metal Gear has emotional power while Splinter Cell stimulates the mind. Metal Gear is outlandish while Splinter Cell doubles down on realism. Both games replaced their main voice actor(Hayter and Ironside) to varying results. The last games released as of right now are both pretty great. Phantom Pain has deserved acclaim, but Blacklist is one of the most underrated games of all time.

I think in spite of them technically being in the same genre, they have really different styles. But which of those styles is your preference? Do you prefer Splinter Cell or Metal Gear? Discuss.

Personally, I prefer the Splinter Cell series. One of the biggest reasons is the AI. It's had great AI as far back as Chaos Theory(greatest Stealth game of all time in my opinion). AI tends to be an underrated important aspect of Stealth Games.

I do think MGS has been a more consistent franchise. But Splinter Cell has reached heights MGS hasn't. Chaos Theory in my opinion trumps any game in MGS you wanna put up against it.

with that kind of stubborn opinion I cannot engage in some reasonable debate with you . Splinter Cell is very nice like I said but MGS is just flawless, greatest franchise in history with 2 games in top 20 arguably top 10 greatest video games of all time.

I've got an open mind. If you wanna change it, then explain why you think MGS is better. Pretty simple.

well I can be proud to say that I played both of these franchises (not all games though). Out of Splinter Cell games I played chaos theory, pandora tomorrow and double agent and out of MGS franchise I played MGS2,MGS3 and MGS4. I found MGS better because it has absolutely amazing soundtrack, characters, story, huge variety of weapons some of which are bizzare lmao etc. MGS4 can be said to be the first video game / movie, something of a crossover due to extremely long cutscenes and the James Bond feel. Now,MGS is quite known to have these extremely long cut scenes, when MGS4 came out in 2008 there were reviews of the game saying it was a pure masterpiece however , it will not probably appeal to a wider audience like that trash cod due to it's creativity and longetivity and that the whole project would not appeal to a wider audience because it's too smart (something like jay z's 444) lmao

Splinter Cell is a masterpiece as well I would say but MGS is like out of this world. Splinter Cell does have a great soundtrack I liked tracks like this one for example

going through jerusalem streets while avoiding the city's police was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Amazing times...

MGS having bizarre weapons is appropriate because everything about that franchise is bizarre. Lol. It's what makes it great. You bring up some good points though. MGS is like a cinematic adventure. It has lots really weird story elements and themes. But you can tell it has a kind of auteur-like sensibility to it. Hideo Kojima has a unique imagination.

Splinter Cell is more like a spy simulator with plausible cyper thriller narratives, which I personally prefer. Makes the whole experience really immersive. The Panama Bank level from Chaos Theory is the stuff of legends.

Metal Gear and it’s absolutely not close. Splinter Cell fell off after Chaos Theory and had never hit the heights of Snake Eater up to that point. MGS is the greatest series oat.
