nah what i said to andy was, basically, this:
- i don't think it's a particularly good song--it barely functions as a song, more like an open letter--but it shows a lot of clarity of thought on his part. talks about insane expectations we put on artists, esp famous artists, but also grapples with the fact that he can't quite recapture what he wants to. it's very astute in that sense.
- i can't get over how stilted and awkward the voice and flow are; he's been rapping professionally for two decades, why can't he sound natural anymore? makes it hard to listen to
- it absolutely has to be either the intro or a bonus track. you can't slot this in anywhere else.
the other things i would note are that, first of all, @Swizz and i will be spending our royalties from this song at the gucci store. second, it strikes me that every eminem album since the year obama was elected has introduced itself by apologizing for the previous album.

Only listened twice but it's surprisingly not bad. It's def not a first single. I would bet that it's the intro to the album.Molly Marshall, thaspectacle71, Oldboy and 5 others like this. -

Everyone’s a f---ing expert.
Shouldn’t have had Beyonce on it, should have had a beat, shouldn’t have been a single, shouldn’t this, shouldn’t that. It’s exhausting -

its honest as f--- and nothing like i expected
but its hard to get past that voice, this is the worst he's sounded in his career imo.. not a fan of the flow either although it does pick up in parts of the song
I rate it 7/10. Better than the uninspired trash on MMLP2. This is at least real, you can hear it(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I like it. It's achingly honest -- actually I pretty much echo what @WPG said about it. Personally, I think it's a question: why now? what's the imperative for an Eminem album in 2017? Hopefully we will get an answer soon (note: my preference is he reserves his vitroil for trump, becoming an "enlightened" working class avatar)
it's not peak Em or iconic, it flirts with turf we've seen him on before. Writer's block/grappling with irrelevance can't be an end onto itself. The stan line at the end is wack, unnecessary. chorus is a little boring. i think his voice is fine. flow is a little ehhhhh but ffs how nitpicky can we be lls

It’s not great as a typical first single, but I think it was necessary and gives a great sense of where he’s been at mentally since even before Relapse. For someone who was notorious about sharing details of his personal life through his music, this is one of the most honest songs he’s done about himself as an artist.
Interested to see what else he has to offer with this album.Guma, Tarre86, SleepyGhost and 2 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I'm sorry if you like this. Dudes lost his f---ing mind and I'm baffled no one just stops him and says bruh they don't like your s--- because you went from having the greatest delivery and flow of all time and now you sound like Stephen Hawking typing a f---ing dictionary page -

Gonna go with a 5
*introspecive track about recent criticisms of his music*
*still does the exact s--- he's been criticized for*
*-he track itself is performed without any care for a beat or rhythm
-also literal copy paste pop singer hook job and corny cheap 'verse lead into' formatLast edited: Nov 10, 2017(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Poetry without a beat is as good as any other music. I love good films, comic books, novels and songs, I'm not a narrow-minded fan of rap. I don't care whether it has beat or if it sounds like hip-hop. "Walk on Water" is a beautiful piece of art and it's all I care for.SleepyGhost, citol, hustleandcuss and 1 other person like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Gonna go with 9 and well for the exact same reasons as said above....
*introspecive track about recent criticisms of his music* (yup, great!)
*still does the exact s--- he's been criticized for* (An artist doing what he wants, not what ppl demand great!)
*the track itself is performed without any care for a beat or rhythm (well okay, this part is just not true but the point is it's not a straight line, and this fits the piano and song feel)
This sets the bar high for the album for me. Obviously we'll get no more acapellas - as it should be - but man this is a great great track to set the stage. Kinda get the Not Afraid feel for Recovery. I get how this will not be what some people wanted as an opener, but this fits his and my age I guess. I was pleasantly surprised.Bostex, Groovy Tony, Macca and 1 other person like this. -

This isnt a song. Its like bad spoken word poetry. The end is random as f--- and sounds like a lead in to another s-----y yelling track. -

It’s like he knows everything people dislike about him but he can’t please everyone. This track seems like almost a letter to fans saying f--- guys I’m sorry I couldn’t please you all but here’s my last album. I tried. -

But yeah... not a bad song but it's got it's problems. Better than anything on MMLP2 but that's not a very high bar. Still hopeful this was just some sort of therapy for him and the album will have a couple of gems on it.Translucent, lil uzi vert stan and eminemson like this.(This ad goes away when signing up)
