Nov 11, 2017 Spot on. He talks about how he won't wine when his time is done while wineing about his time being done. I do like his intentions with the content but then he puts Beyonce on it just ruined it for me. I get there wasn't a beat so I can't hate the flow. Good thing is the first single is always different from the album. I think this was just him being insecure like he admitted and has no confidence in his new album.
Nov 11, 2017 @M Solo i kind of said same thing in other thread.. Think I'm a little more on the positive side of things with this song tho then you are. I agree with a lot of what you said and i could be wrong but i really think the song was intended to inform everyone that he hears the criticism like all of it and that its affected him majorly. But i think hes saying all of that to say "i hear you, but i cant please you all, so f--- it here is what ive got." think that was only purpose od this song and the flow and way it was mechanically put together was all done on purpose. I could be wrong but i would bet on it. And think this revival theme is him trying to revive the old him or revive him all together into something we have never seen him be before. Either way the way they have done this roll out and even the type of song the single is definitely makes me hyped to see what hes going to bring because all of this is stuff they've never done before and i think they have finally started to give in a little bit and realized his former GOAT status isnt going to carry him and keep him relevant with the same old recipe. Theyve been forced to adapt to the new landscape of hip hop and the digital and social media age. Hope it works out for the best. But i take the song for the message and nothing else because i really believe thats all it was and everything about it was done intentionally.
Nov 11, 2017 It's overall a great track. It will debut #1 next week on the charts. Millions of people wouldn't play a song if it was so terrible like most are trying to make it out to be.If you don't like it then don't listen. This man will never be the Em from 99-04. Just accept it and be grateful he's still doing music
Nov 11, 2017 So using this logic it's fair to say that Eminem never made a great song until Lose Yourself, correct?
Nov 11, 2017 It's hard to know where the bar sits and to see him "reach and miss" or whatever verse one says...h---, even em knows it.
Nov 11, 2017 I kinda understand where you’re coming from with the fact he’s been here before with Guts Over Fear and such. But the thing is songs like that didn’t reach a wide audience. With this it’s his first single featuring Beyoncé. Everyone at work today was talking about this song. I don’t remember a single person I know talking about Guts Over Fear when it came out. And this is a better song than GOF imo. With this the message gets across much better. About how he knows he’s never going to please everyone but he’s just going to do what he feels is best. Plus the end of the song strongly implies that the rest of the album won’t be like this.
Nov 11, 2017 I don't have to accept anything. I understand he can't and never will be 99-03 Eminem. But can he be late 09-mid 10 Eminem? Can he make a song like GOF again? Trust me I'm not hating just to hate. I'm his biggest advocate when he does something I like. This forum tore apart GOF while I called it a low-key classic.
Nov 11, 2017 Really hope those last few bars were a lead into another track which seems to be the obvious thing but over the years I've learned obvious or sensible isnt always the best assumption with Paul, Em, and Shady Records as a whole..
Nov 11, 2017 I respect your opinion but also strongly disagree. There are days where I think GOF is his best post-hiatus song. WOW wouldn't crack my top 10.
Nov 11, 2017 Where did I say that songs are bad if they don't make number one? I was stating that maybe everyone here is way too d--- critical about EVERYTHING this dude puts out. Most of you guys just listen to find flaws. It's kind of a sickness
Nov 11, 2017 It amazes me we can get him sounding/flowing fine, with decent (albeit tired content) on his recent P!nk feature... and then on his own first single for his first album in 4 years, we get this s--- show. It's unbelievable.
Nov 11, 2017 I still don't think this is a bad song from modern Eminem. It's interesting, it had me listening to it multiple times. But like you said @M Solo he is falling in to the same failures he's talking about. Still, I'm anticipating this album more than I was before walk on water was released
Nov 11, 2017 Again, I'm really not hating. A lot of posters asked for my opinion and well here it is. I'm still quite hopeful. This wasn't an album killer for me like We Made You or Berserk. That whole 'He's gonna get rid of all immigrants!' /'He's gonna build that thang up taller than this!' bit from his freestyle was the most vintage Eminem thing he's done in 15 years. The John McCain part was genius, too. I'm actually really hopeful for this album. And for what it's worth every lead single has initially disappointed since Without Me. It actually took a few months for me to really appreciate and realize how classic it was. I can distinctly remember thinking it sounded kind of goofy and exactly like the D12 single back then.
Nov 11, 2017 Not really. The part on ShadyXV where he's actually replicating his old self is way more vintage and that's just off the top of my head. That line you mentioned is cringe imo
Nov 11, 2017 How on Earth is it "cringe"? And I don't know what you're talking about from that song because that piece of s--- was a straight to the recycle bin song for me.
Nov 11, 2017 Hilarious and extremely accurate. He's either a Trump supporter or just being a contrarian.
