So....where does it say that Rhymefest "wrote most of the College Dropout?" Those are just articles from around the time of the Drake/Meek Mill beef where rhymefest is trying to get himself in the headlines. Kanye been crediting everyone to touch his songs for ages. He does what everyone does in a studio (bounce ideas, have people help improve lines, have people write some lines here and there) except he actually puts them all in the credits. Are there probably some old songs where not everyone who contributed half a bar got credited? Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. I just don't know how someone could listen to Kanye's whole discography and not think that the vast majority of the ideas and lines come from one brain. I'd argue that Kanye has one of the most recognizable voices in all of rap. I don't get how people can read a couple offhand comments from people mad that they aren't famous and turn that into "all of kanye's stuff is ghostwritten."

Like my top ten favorite rappers would probably be something like:
Kanye
Big Boi
Pusha T
Q-Tip
Future
Ghostface
Thug
Jay
Weezy
Kendrick/Isaiah Rashad/Biggie/Pac/Freddie Gibbs/whoever there's so many rappers that could round out a top ten
And I don't think any of them stick out because they're all amazing rappers for different reasons. The way ghostface raps is nothing like the way Kanye raps but that doesn't mean they're not both great. Ghostface's lyrics are certainly way more dense than Kanye's, but I've never "felt" ghostface's lyrics on the same emotional level I've felt Kanye's. And that's not a knock at ghostface at all -- but he's the type of rapper who you listen to and think "holy s--- what did he just say" and have to rewind it to unpack it.Rodamon, 1999, Mraczewsky and 2 others like this. -

Kanye's top ten for sure. I don't know why the fact that he doesn't always make traditional, straightforward rap disqualifies him from that. Does Electric Circus disqualify common from being considered? Is blackthought disqualified because the roots haven't always made straightforward rap? Are the genre-benders of today going to be in 10 years?
@Big Dangerous why would it be weird to put Kanye on the same list as Nas?
I guess for me, whenever I'm talking about the "best rappers of all time" I'm always discussing "who makes the best rap music" and Kanye certainly falls in the realm of a top 10 list if we're talking about that.Ordinary Joel, Rodamon, 1999 and 1 other person like this. -

I can see how someone that's more interested in complex rhymes/flows etc would not have Kanye in his top 10.. but I do for the reason I stated.nunofherdeiro, HappyTreeFriends and 1999 like this. -

kanye is known for making really bragadocious/lavish/egotistic raps, or that's how I always saw him, for the most part. As a whole I don't think that in say, 5 or 10 years time from now people will hold his raps in the same regard as "bezt rappuhz ov all tim" like Kendrick Lamar who is really woke and spitted da reelest s----s and had all these cultural messages and helped communities. Kanye will be overshadowed by "them" for being known as an egomanical a--- hole, with self-centered lyrics and messages - as opposed to body-positive, social justice, self-enlightening pseudo intellectual popular rappers, like Kendrick Lamar. The Box, Big Dangerous and HappyTreeFriends like this. -
