    This is probably Australias worst World Cup performance since returning to the tournament in 2006.

    2006 was obviously amazing, making it to the R16 losing to Italy by a penalty.

    2010, the 4-0 Germany defeat killed us... although we did beat Serbia.

    2014 we were put in the group of death with Spain, Netherlands and Chile, despite losing all 3 games, we played our hearts out and did really well.

    Australia might not look good on paper but we've always played well together. Feel pretty empty after this result.

    @Jakey I still vividly recall that bs game against Italy, what a horrendous call for that penalty.

    We gotta wait till the Asian Cup next year to properly judge this batch of players, this was a difficult group as well (I'd say only Group H matches the competitiveness). The programs have grown admirably, one thing I've always said about Asian football is that at some point we're bound to get an international superstar out of there, Ji-Sung Park, Nakata & kinda Miura or even Al-Jaber back in the day at some point will be surpassed

    We barely qualified lol..... I guess not qualifying out of CONCACAF is pretty embarrassing :')

    Oh boy that Penalty was very controversial here. I remember when Del Piero came to play in the A-League, he was obviously in that Italian team and our players definitely let him know that he was luck to win that World Cup :') I'm pretty iffy about it, it was a dangerous and premature slide tackle.

    I really hope the AFC grows, China's splashing a lot of cash, they just need promising home grown players now.

    As for Australia's young prospects, I dont really know much although Arzani is looking good.

    It’s great. Obviously it’s not a perfect process yet but the ability for refs to look back & make the correct call is 100% worth it. Football fans who are so opposed to VAR just confuse me.

    I absolutely welcome it, it still needs some adjustments still, as we saw it's up to the refs to handle pressure from coaches/players. Yesterday's Iran/Portugal was a horrible example of how VAR can be mishandled (two poor pks, time wasted on a pointless yellow)

    It will take some time, officials & players on the field are still getting used to it but it's worth it. I'm curious on how/if it will decide this World Cup final.

    Pple are mad that some decisions are being checked and some aren't. Same as before but now its getting more fair imo. I like it

    The football fans i’ve encountered that are against it argue that it’s ruining the pace of the game & that it takes away from the drama/atmosphere which I find ridiculous.

    I kinda get what they mean but lets be real its about money and money alone. Wrong decisions cost millions so w the VAR they can eliminate most of those wrong decisions

    VAR is good was just used badly last night.

    Referee & Var officials last night f----- it up. VAR has been used well overall at the WC.
