the point is that kanye spent six weeks doing a bunch of indefensibly stupid s--- with the implication being that there would be some massive payoff—whether that came as an about-face or simply him fully articulating his views, as he’s always expressed himself more clearly on-record than off-. but there wasn’t. he just dropped all of that and made a supremely boring, hacky album.Vos, Rodamon, andy.cooper and 4 others like this.Dec 18, 2025(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I don't agree. I guess you can judge it however you want to though. I just figured as you're a music critic it would work like that.
Your opinion is pretty offensive to me tho so I don't think I'm gonna pay for the rest of it lolasvdawg, lil uzi vert stan, Packman and 3 others like this. -

art is the actual art in question
not random s--- outside of it. that s---'s pretty much irrelevant
that kinda weird s--- is why I don't f--- w/ reviews 99% of the time, because there's always some weird segue into some s--- about the artists life or what they ate for breakfast and why it makes the album bad and I'm like who gives a f---
it has nothing to do with the music, foh w/ that weird s--- -

i don't get it, album ain't amazing, but it's not bad either, easy 7/10
who gives a f--- what dumb s--- he said before the album dropped, it's irrelevant to the quality of the music and has no impact on it -

Just asking but... Do you think your disliking of the album has anything to do with Kanye's actions recently? Because I know you're big on politics lol.
That's not what he said... And I feel like it's documented at this point anyway...
He said this later..
"Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will. My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that we were mentally enslaved. We can’t be mentally imprisoned for another 400 years. We need free thought now. Even the statement was an example of free thought. It was just an idea."
I totally get what he meant but I don't want to turn this into a political debate even tho I kinda just did. lol. Most of the preview of the review is about what he's voiced in regards to politics recently though.asvdawg, Caine, KingZ and 1 other person like this. -

nah. the truth is that every artist—even every work—is different and is in conversation with the outside world to a different degree. but. while i agree plenty of mainstream critics pay too little attention to the actual formal elements of popular art, insisting that art be considered as if it’s created, presented, and existing in a vacuum literally misses the point of art.
EDIT: kanye is a massively famous artist who has, for stretches, successfully removed himself from the public eye. he chose to re-enter the spotlight with a very deliberate, very public set of statements and symbols. it’s part of the performance. asking critics to not consider that is like asking people to start reviewing something at track three.
the review considers the public performance, the music itself, and the disconnect between the two. that’s what you should do—in this case at least. -

I don't see how it's naive or stupid. I feel like that's kinda close-minded of you to say to be honest mate. Everyone sees things differently.
Unless you can explain why you think that? Because I'm open to listening and my mind being changed. -

Btw congrats on finally making a living off of your writing bro! You must be balling with that $100 a month
