i was onboard with this write-up until it took a "blame america" stance. no doubt he was raised in a s--- situation, and was put through an equally likely s---, possibly racist, judicial system, but at some point the responsibility lands on the individual to own their own actions.

for you sensitive: of course he didn't deserve to die.

like I said before, I couldn't agree more. these social justice warriors proclaiming the world has won bc X died are f---ing hypocritical pieces of s---. he beat a woman. nobody can defend him on that. however, there are so many public figures who have done the same thing or worse and people still love them. why do they feel rich the kid (who beat his wife, forced her to have several abortions) deserves to have prayers thrown to him after getting beaten up but praise the murder of a young black man with a message? bc there are pictures that show the brutality. I can guarantee if those pics didn't exist, most of these people thrilled that X is dead wouldn't respond that way. it's unfair that X is publicly shamed and condemned and his murder is celebrated bc there is physical proof of what he did. again, not defending his actions one bit. but meanwhile, y'all were saying free Kevin gates for stomping the s--- out of a female fan for touching him, free bobby and rowdy for conspiracy to k--- a bunch of f---in people, and y'all still love fab even tho he beat the s--- out of his baby momma, not to mention chris brown beating the s--- out of Rihanna. X isn't the same 16 year old mentally troubled individual he once was. people can change. anyone who is glad he is dead is a piece of f---in s---

I took it more as saying that institutions in America help perpetuate and keep people locked into these types of cycles, not that America at large is a responsible for any single individual's actions. One of the last lines is "He stomped on the head of a gay cellmate in juvenile hall, nearly beat Ayala blind, and, to the day he died, appeared largely unrepentant." I don't think the author was trying to absolve him.

i like his music regardless. in a way his actions made the music scarier and somehow more interesting to dive into, at least his old soundcloud material. i enjoyed his newer stuff just because it was good music. but the old stuff that was psychologically grounded in his craziness was just really interesting to listen to for me personally, despite me knowing he did awful things.

i didnt really feel anything when he died even though i was a fan, but rest in peace.

Not to mention --- was charged with eight counts of witness tampering and harassment.

The people trying minimize his abusive actions are just as gross as the people saying they're glad he got killed to me. And like I said, I truly hope he was getting the help he needed to deal with his issues and become a better person.

"Real, substantial justice for Geneva Ayala would have been Onfroy’s incarceration in a facility offering robust mental health services, not an extrajudicial execution ostensibly unconnected to his misdeeds."

i understand. i thought that last paragraph was a harsh, but unfortunately suitable, way of concluding the write-up.

i actually think we both kinda interpreted the mid-sections similarly -- america is to blame, in the sense that it perpetuates individuals in these situations...i guess all i was really adding is that there comes a point where the individual is the one choosing to jump to extremes, despite their characteristics largely being molded by outside unfair factors. i wasn't raised in such harsh conditions, and i'd imagine there's pretty close to a 0% chance that one could come out as being a poster child, but the extreme violent leaps need accountability on the individuals' behalf -- and i didn't really get that out of those couple paragraphs.

yo i keep going back to this. thanks for sharing...gives some perspective and helps with the struggle of trying to create a separation between not only his music, but balancing the negatives of him as a person versus the positive impacts that he's landed on a wider range of individuals...i think a lot of people on here have been expressing & struggling with that (including myself).

...and it was the 8 counts of witness tampering that was gonna land him in jail for a few decades. The eight counts of witness tampering is, clearly, also why his gf changed her story. Lastly, his impending jail time is also why he likely started all his nonsense ramblings about positivity and changing the world for the better, trying to fool everyone in to thinking he was a changed man, in hopes that his fate wasn't already sealed.

Huh? Dude, think about what you just typed. Yeah, he called her from jail several times, (recorded telephone calls, LOL), threatened her to change her story...SHE DID...and he got charged with witness tampering. That's how it works.

Have you seen the one little video that, I guess, he posted to insta or something, where she is cowering behind her hands while he tells her to say sorry, and she does so. Don't tell me this isn't a battered girlfriend...

bro, it was an ABUSIVE relationship. there was psychical and MENTAL abuse in that relationship. of course she still loves him, its common for people in relationships like that to feel like that regardless of what they did to eachother.

if you dont understand, you've never experienced or been close to someone who's been in a relationship like that.

Always gotta be that one cornball who thinks it's time for a morbid joke. Eh. Desensitized by that s---, too. As much as I'm almost desensitized about these deaths.
