Many people are so simplistic I swear. Depending on the surface presentation of a song, particularly with Em, they categorize it as meaningful or not. There's more substance in Rap God than like 90% of his 'emotional feeels'. It's really simplistic and one dimensional to tell a literal story or a literal expression of emotion 'wahh I'm sad', 'ooh this happened' but because people are so narcissistic and it's easy to 'relate to' they go OOH I'VE BEEN SAD TOO! THIS SONG IS A MASTERPIECE! and say something like Rap God is trash due to the presentation when in reality he cleverly touched on much more complicated subjects in a much more interesting way.

Substance doesn't just mean simplistic, literal emotional stories. Most people miss substance if the presentation isn't obvious ''oh this is just rappity rap babble''... NAH, you're just missing it and not getting it, because the presentation isn't THIS IS MAHHH SAD SONG, CUE PIANOS!

It's great. Great songs, subject-matter, rhyming... its only downfall is the production. Like Recovery it just sounds muddy and s---.

If that was re-done with great beats I'd say it's a d--- classic.

People are corny, they copy Em's own views about it and the general consensus AHH HE JUST BEIN' NAS ON DAT lmao when in reality... Yeah the AZ influence is crazy on the title track and yes you can hear the Nas vibes, but as a writer he's still insanely different and there's still classic Eminem-ism traits to almost everything he's saying. It's way more valid of an album than giving credit for.
