I am a hiphop fan. I just haven't had the chance to get into any new music this year so far. Been listening to my old stuff.

But i'm a little disappointed now that you point out a lot of the albums listed is mumble rap.

A lot of people here seem to be into mumble rappers for some reason. Can't listen to that s---.

All this Future crap is cancer to me. I just can't get into it.

Any suggestions on a good project that has been released recently?

Daytona. I didn't love it as much as everyone else but it's probably the easiest album to recommend to you out of the ones that BigCuntry listed. It's good. NoName is also pretty good. Haven't got into her in a big way yet but she's a female rapper with a unique sound. Nothing like Cardi B or Nicki Minaj. Kids See Ghosts is okay. Depends on taste though... some loved it. I thought it had some good tracks but meh. Scorpion isn't the best album overall but has some good tracks. Haven't got around to the Mac Miller album but it's supposedly really good according to some (i was never into his music tho). Travis Scott's album is decent... but it's a Travis Scott album. If you didn't like him before... you won't like this album.

I thought Ye was good and worth a listen. Opinions are very divided on that too though.

Like I said... there's really nothing that has stood out this year imo. A lot has been meh-good. Hard to see any albums going down as classics or even really close. Daytona is one that was pretty unanimously loved though.

Thanks, will take a look at those.

I liked some of Pusha T's songs that I heard in the past. Will definitely give this Daytona album a listen.

I always check out the new albums of artists i've been into for years but I haven't gotten into any new artists for a while. Actually, ever since mumble rap has become so popular. But my music library needs an update.

yeah, i feel you. just to clarify... I think mumble rap is a term that is overused. I actually like Future for instance. However, you could call him mumble rap as he pretty clearly mumbles lol.

Thing is with this new sound in Hip-Hop is it's getting very stale and samey. There's not enough innovation or distinction between a lot of the artists. And basically none of them are saying anything interesting. That's just the truth. Like can we stop pretending that these guys have anything interesting to say? lol. I totally get liking the sound and aesthetic but yeah. When a lot of them sound the same and the genre is overly saturated with that s--- + they're not really saying anything to give the music staying power... it's a problem.

    I agree 100%

It does sound all the same. Generic beats, same hooks. There seems to be zero effort. I just can't wait for this trend to be over. It has probably been the worst period for hiphop in history.

If we just look back around 2008. The artists that were hot were T.I., Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Kanye, The Game etc.. They all had quality records and they were all very different. I miss those times.

In the last few years it's been hard to even distinguish these guys appart. The Lil Pumps and 6ix9nines or whatever all their names are.. They all sound the same. I don't know where all these garbage "artists" came from and how they just suddenly all appeared but it's a shame that that's what a lot of people are into these days.

I think there are some distinctions between quite a few of them but not often enough or by a large enough margin. It's all really dumb too. Like... I like dumb... but I can only take so much dumb.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the genre evolving too.

@Sahara legit question: what two artists on this list would you say genuinely sound alike? The only one can think of is Travis Scott biting Future. There's a very diverse array of artists here.

@Grim Heartbreak Kodak is EASILY his worst album to me. It was hastily thrown together and put out while he was in jail as far as I know. There's nothing on there that stuck with me.

I think the more you listen to that kind of music... the more you're able to distinguish the differences between artists. How much you enjoy that sound is another factor. When you're really into a certain sound in music you're able to see the differences much more (due to naturally paying attention more and just appreciation).

I can see the differences for sure. I understand Greedo has his own sound in that realm and even like some of his songs. I have a much lower attention span for that kind of music than you though. To me it gets bland/samey too quickly. For someone like @Tonshor who has no patience for it at all it's even worse lol.

The beats are often pretty similar. Lot of bass and heavy use of synth. Lot of auto-tune. There are differences in how they utilise it but when they're not really saying anything... It just gets dull too fast for me.

Kanye West has made albums that are more different than each other than a lot of these artists are when compared with each other. That's pretty lame.
