Still an unfathomably bad album. It's sad that Eminem himself doesn't understand why. It's even sadder that Dr. Dre apparently doesn't either. Finally, it is just downright bizarre that Em can slate Relapse and yet record, release, and release 2 music videos for "Framed", a total Relapse throwback that is better than most of that trash album.

I liked Walk on water, Believe, Chloro, framed, Castle and arose. Offended would have been great but that turd line is too much for me.

Somewhere halfway between GKMC’s narrative structure and TPAB’s incredibly dense and heady content, d--- sees Kung Fu Kenny embarking on a near-perfectly executed legacy build, drawing on his own experiences to weave tales about the life and times of the black man in America. But its not only that of course; he draws on themes of humanity, from his own and others’ perspectives and embellishes it with a surprisingly varied yet contemporary collection of instrumentals that range from the trap-imbued thump of Humble, to the droning, murky waters of Feel, where Kendrick raps as though he’s swimming desperately against the current, trying not drown. Its an extremely well constructed album (so much so that you can literally play it back to front lol) and yet another essential in Kendrick’s catalog. I give it a 9/10

A very slight improvement on TPAB imo with some standout songs that I really enjoy and some others not so much but understand their initial intentions. I'd probably give a 7.5/10. Is there anyway I can be added to the mention list?

Kendrick's best work due to the way I feel like I can always revisit it unlike his previous albums.

Absolutely love d--- so much. It’s an incredible and amazing album. I don’t really care for LOYALTY but I know that’s a popular song. It’s perfectly fine, there’s nothing particularly wrong with it, it just doesn’t do anything for me. But at least it fits thematically into the album’s overarching story and premise so I’m glad it’s there.

For me personally, I feel GKMC and d--- are Kenny’s 2 best albums. I’m not sure what my favorite song on d--- is, but I will say that FEEL still amazes me every single time I hear it. Its like I disconnect from reality and get lost in those verses.

For me, in a weird way d--- seems to get better with age. I think I appreciate this album more today than when it first dropped. This is probably because I’ve heard the lyrics so many times by now that I can easily follow along for the ride.

Oh and getting the legendary Kid Capri to make appearances on ELEMENT and LOVE? Beautiful touch, especially for us older 90s heads.

    9/10

I never really liked Kendrick that much after GKMC. I listened to this a few times and its a huge improvement over TPAB. The Rihanna song is nice, DNA & Humble slap. Overall I guess 7.5/10

d--- never really clicked for me. I guess the production isn't really my thing, and Kendrick's flows and writing aren't as intense as they once were to me. Some really good songs, but not so much replay value - again, just my opinion - while GKMC was just... front to back mesmerizing. For the record I'm even in the minority that thinks TPAB is a better album than d---.
I hadn't listened to it in months tbh, so I'm glad this thread made me dive in once again. But for me it's still a 6.5/10

Lol. Worst album got the most reviews and ratings... Anyway, d--- is a classic. One of very few albums I listened to more than 3 4 times in 2017. Love this. My favorite Kendrick album. I used to bump this in the car a lot. Production is sick. Flows are great and almost Evey sing sounds like a dope a--- single. 9,5/10

After TPAB I was wondering what direction could Kendrick possibly go next? The idea of taking all of the popular sounds of the time and putting his own Kdot twist on it somehow worked out perfectly; d--- ticks all the boxes. Few people are as well-versed in the art of assembling albums like Kendrick--every song/verse fulfills a purpose and his ability to create an overarching theme to bind his albums together is a thing of beauty. The singles were great and the album cuts anchor down what was another successful project in his remarkable career. The question once again is, where could he possibly go from here?

d--- is Kendrick Lamar's best album, it's the best album of 2017, and it's one of the best of the decade. Coming off of TPAB where he focused so much on celebrating the history of black music and creating 'hidden meaning' for Rap Genius to dissect that he forgot to make good songs, d--- is a breath of fresh air. Gone is the maximalist polish and pretentiousness of TPAB, replaced with a grittier sound and minimalist tone that allows Kendrick to take centerstage and craft songs that are both crowd pleasingly universal with sing-along moments (HUMBLE, ELEMENT) and at the same time soul crushingly personal (FEEL, FEAR). It displays Kendrick's expertise not just as a technical MC but as a songwriter capable of creating ear-worms out of single lines and inflections that never detract from the theme of the songs. Even what should have been complete pop-sellout features designed for headlines (Rihanna and U2) end up being perfectly utilized and mesh perfectly with the tone and aesthetic. This is Kendrick at his artistic and technical peak, and I'll be surprised if he ever matches this again; but I said the same thing after GKMC so I'll be happy to be proven wrong.

    9.6/10

I was wondering the exact same thing, after he dropped The Heart Pt. 4 if he was going back to his Section 80 roots or would double down on the TPAB sound, but then Humble dropped and all bets were off. Exactly like you said though, I couldn't even guess where he's gonna go from here.

Edit: thinking about this, its likely we'll be getting the next Kendrick solo album relatively soon. Maybe even 1st quarter 2019.

When I listened to this for the first time I knew it was a good album, but it just never stuck with me like GKMC or TPAB did.
I never had the urge to listen to it again, same with untitled unmastered.
Favourite songs were DNA and Fear
Least favourite were Humble and Lust

This album was very good. Imma say it now though I don't really understand the TPAB hate cause that still slaps idk what y'all are on. But anyways after something as amazing as TPAB, Kendrick definitely kept his already great album run going with d---., and it was interesting seeing him going a mainstream route after making TPAB because that was not as mainstream or as easily accessible compared to GKMC. Kendrick's mainstream sound worked for him, cause songs like HUMBLE., DNA., and ELEMENT. were great imo. His experimentation with songs like ---. and FEAR. were also worthwhile listens too. I still hate that album cover tho. 8/10
