Dec 17, 2018 An absolute masterpiece! The unparrelleled raw energy and gritty demeanor this album exudes is just so intoxicating. One of few albums where I feel like I can take on the world with it blared into my ears! It's tough for me to pinpoint standout moments on this project, but I'm partial to whatever GZA spits on here. Whether it's his verses on Clan in da Front, or his showending lines on one of the best posse cuts OAT in Protect Ya Neck... he just sounds so commanding and real. Literally feels like I'm transported to Staten Island and in the wars with the clan whenever I spin this s---. It gets a perfect 10 from me. The production is immaculate and the dusty vibes is right up my alley. I'm running out of adjectives here, but whew! What a f---ing impactful album!!!
Dec 17, 2018 fair enough but are you rating albums based on how much you like/dislike the artist? or on the merit of the album itself? I mean I f---in hate J Cole but I'll give him his 5 or 6/10 for the effort at least
Dec 17, 2018 10/10 Great choice and it's hard to further add on to what you guys perfectly iterated (yes even Ben's tirade). Enter The Wu is a seminal rap album, everyone already knows the context of this masterpiece of how it played a major part of the rap renaissance in NY and how it singlehandedly put Shaolin on the map. The idea of even having so many rappers in one crew was crazy enough but what's so interesting is that none of them are even remotely alike, not till Odd Future at least did we ever see such an eccentric group of characters that captured an entire generation. RZA's signature sound still fascinates me to this day, who else would think martial arts flicks and hip-hop could merge so well? This really sounds like they recorded it in RZA's murky f---ing basement with rats and roaches crawling over the d--- place. That CREAM beat is still one of the most amazing things to ever grace my ears. Picking an MVP of this album is an even more impossible task--m--- was by every means the perfect rapper, Ghost & Rae were soon to break out as acclaimed solo acts and in the album they established a dynamic chemistry, ODB was such an unmistakable character and GZA & Inspectah bodied every track they were on. Overall this is a staple that I'd recommend to any burgeoning rap fan and is still such an amazing record for dustheads like me.
Dec 18, 2018 10/10, and it comes from the heart. This is still one of the best pieces of art the hip-hop culture has offered to the history of music. Inspired, powerful, funny, beautiful. Terrific beats, great lyrics from everyone involved.
Dec 18, 2018 Just wanna get my rating in before we move on to the next album. 10/10 for so many different reasons. If/when I have time I'll edit this post with a quick little explanation.
Dec 18, 2018 10/10 RZA is one of the most underappreciated people in hiphop and this is an example why. Combine that with great rappers and u get a classic album. Honestly everything has been said about this album already.
Dec 18, 2018 There’s not much to say that hasn’t been said already, but it’s a 10/10. Every verse is great, the production is fantastic, their chemistry is really good & it holds up extremely well. I saw them perform the whole album in July (Method Man bailed last minute though) and they were good, it’s just too bad m--- wasn’t there.
Dec 18, 2018 Yeah this is one of those albums like The Blueprint where I’m comfortable saying it’s close enough to perfect that I can give it a 10. This is neck and neck with The Infamous and Reasonable Doubt as my fav 90s NY album...and it’s one I loved in high school just as much as I love it now even as my tastes have massively changed. It’s just as fun as it is gritty. Anything else I’d say would just be repeating others. 10/10
