Nov 28, 2018 There is a version of Wolves that is incredible.. but w 372937 versions of the song and the album itself how can we judge it? Lot of the OG versions were pretty good. Wolves w Vic, Sia and no s--- verse was/is amazing. One of my favorite Ye songs actually
Nov 28, 2018 So many of the songs sound unfinished and had the potential to be so much more. The lyrics are also very spotty, save a few exceptions (Real Friends, No More Parties in LA). That said, the production is still pretty great throughout, and Kanye does enough to make many of the songs somewhat enjoyable. Still feels like a wasted effort. Waves could have been so much better if Kanye added a verse. Father Stretch My Hands, while very enjoyable, has that awful bleached a------ line that I can't not cringe at...oh, and Wolves has one of Kanye's worst verses ever on it. Ultralight Beam, No More Parties in LA, and Real Friends are all top songs though. 7/10
Nov 28, 2018 Part of my love for this album comes from the rollout itself—it was messy as h--- but it was so fun watching it all unfold. I'd kinda compare it to being a LOST fan while it was on the air...even if it all didn't turn out as well as it could have, being along for the ride and discussing and speculating with friends was an awesome experience. That being said, this album holds up better than it has any right to (and I assume better than LOST lol). I still put it on fairly frequently—there's a couple clunkers on here/missed opportunities but the good songs that surround it are good enough that it anchors the album. And I dig how the album/rollout matches Kanye's mindset at the time. It's a series of haphazard, manic ups and downs. 8/10
Nov 28, 2018 I binged through all of LOST a couple years ago and I thought it was pretty good except the whole "we have to go back to the island" thing got old after like the 3rd time
Nov 28, 2018 Pablo feels less like a cohesive whole and more like a playlist; it's a mess, lacking the kind of grand, unifying theme and sound that Kanye wove into all of his previous projects, but in an endearing way, rather than the obvious, transparent way of his next album. After obsessively reinventing himself on every project up to that point, Ye hit us with maybe the most left-field move of his entire career and made... a conventional rap album. Hearing him dart back a forth from Ultralight Beam to Freestyle 4 to FML to NMPILA is honestly kind of thrilling, and doesn't come off gimmicky like it does on Ye. The writing, aside from a few verses here and there, is uniformly awful, but Kanye can still chop up samples better than nearly anyone else and stops the album from completely falling apart with some legendary beats. There are a few absolute clunkers on here (I'd be happy if I went my entire life without ever hearing Facts again), but the good songs really connect and show that the Kanye who made Yeezus is still in there somewhere. I'd be perfectly fine if Yandhi sounded like this. 7.5/10
Nov 28, 2018 8/10 I've grown to love TLOP more with time enough tho I don't even know which versions of songs are which, nevertheless there is something so chaotic about this project that was endearing to me. The rollout was a blast to follow with the messy live-streaming and Ye's shape shifting title changes, it clearly reflected that TLOP was an amalgamation of ideas--both good and downright awful--that makes this so unlike his other projects. Kanye's work has always been bringing in other creative talents into his own imagination and all these features were fantastic, it had Chance's most iconic feature and it even churned out a #1 hit out of Desiigner. What's so weird about this d--- album was how much Ye's writing peaked and plummeted so many times, more or less signified the enigmatic personality Kanye has become in recent times. That's what I love about his career, it's like a yearbook with each album marking a period of his extraordinary mindset and the soundscape of rap music.
Nov 28, 2018 8/10 love this album, but in retrospect i think i loved it more as an experience than the actual music itself starting from only one & all day all the way to the saint pablo tour unfortunately i don't listen to it at all anymore fav song is still wolves
Nov 29, 2018 Some people just needed to give this album a better chance. Probably one of the most underrated projects Kanye has. Starting off with Ultralight Beam, a song that absolutely moved me, theres just so many more great tracks throughout. The first minute of Father Stretch My Hands was iconic. Famous, Wolves, Waves, FML, Saint Pablo this album has everything. 8.5/10
Nov 29, 2018 i don't think TLOP is as good as some of his previous albums, mostly because the lyrics are a little lackluster. but its still a very solid album that was probably a bit too long. to me, the highights are ultralight beam, no more parties in LA, real friends and i love kayne. i thought rihanna, kirk franklin and chance were awesome features, but overall i wasn't too big of a fan of the other features. this is usually a strong point of kanyes album, but not so much on this one. not my favorite kanye album, but i still enjoy this record and will come back to it over and over again. 6/10
Nov 29, 2018 Imma bust the coaches head open on some Diddy s--- if he ever talks to me son like an idiot. Just listened to this all the way through on the train like a month again and it holds up better than I remember. I wish he would have taken his time a little bit more, but it’s sgull great. I remember being on here watching the MSG release party, and I remember the OG Wolves getting leaked and I DM’d Koolo asking if this was the real thing and he was pissed cause the guy wasn’t supposed to leak it lol. I had always been a big Kanye fan, but I didn’t become a Stan until I saw the Yeezus tour, so this was the first release for me as a full on Stan. Great times. 8/10
Nov 29, 2018 Musically and lyrically, this album is a bit of a mess, but somehow, it works out. Completely disregarding how messy getting this album out to its fully updated form was, I feel like it was worth it because the album as it is today is a really enjoyable listen. Sure, there are a lot of dumb lyrics, but I feel like it has a lot to do with this album being a look into Kanye's state of mind. I thought it was a better look into how Kanye felt on the inside than Ye was. This one is a lot more raw and raunchy, and it has a lot of great moments too imo. You can't deny that this is one of Kanye's most creative albums. Also, all of what was happening around this album with the line about Taylor on Famous and the meme-ing of FSMH just makes this album more memorable. 8/10
Nov 29, 2018 8.5/10 As others have already stated the rollout to this album was stressful and exhilirating at the same time. I have no shame in the fact that I stayed up until 3am for two nights in a row to get the first crack I could at it. FSMH pt 1 intro is the most iconic music moment of the decade, FML and Real Friends don’t get nearly the appreciation that they deserve, and Famous upon first listen gave ya boy all types of chills. The musicality of this album will stand the test of time, it’s aged way better than it should have, and if Yandhi is as good as this album is considering his mental state as of late, I’ll be more than satisfied.
Nov 30, 2018 The Life of Pablo gets a 7.4/10 from 18 ratings Next up… RATING 7: Nelly - Nellyville Release Date: 25 June 2002 Label: Universal / Fo’ Reel Tracklist: 01. Nellyville 02. The man has a diamond selling album under his belt. I was just starting to get into rap around the time Nellyville dropped and I remember alternating between this, The Eminem Show and Blueprint 2 non-stop the whole year (“only dudes moving units: Em, p---- Juice and us”). Obviously the nostalgia is a big factor looking back at this album. But it still holds up surprisingly well. Maybe a little heavy ended, especially compared to Country Grammar (the whole thing is probably 20 minutes too long) but still stacked with hits, top to bottom. I never liked the St. Lunatics but their appearances add a good amount of flavour when they pop up. Looking back now its also interesting to hear how this and Country Grammar built a lot on the sounds Mannie Fresh was making from a few years prior and brought it to the mainstream. Like I said, Nelly doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Solid 7/10.
Nov 30, 2018 Best Nelly album ever. So many dope songs on this, actually I'm glad you picked this album and reminded me how dope it was. I'm gonna listen to it tomorrow. Aside from very popular singles like Hot in Here and Dilemma, I always loved Nellyville, Oh Nelly, Air Force Ones and specially Rock The Mic (Remix) a lot. Before 2003 or 04 I was listenin' to the singles and popular rap hits only. In 2002, my dad bought both Nellyville and The Eminem Show. I was so in love with TES that I kinda slept on this album for sometime but after a year or 2 this album was one of the albums that helped me realize rap is actually my fav genre. Even though, it may seem like I kinda underrate it, I think this is a classic album. 8/10
