Nov 21, 2018 I don't follow the law in many cases so no I wouldn't. So basically once someone becomes too successful they have have to get taxed & give money in some cases to some losers who had no drive or ambition & were too lazy to do anything with their life. Now that is a extreme situation but that is what could happen. Some people don't deserve handouts & some people have had little luck in life, come from underprivileged backrounds etc & deserves some help. It is impossible to regulate correctly.
Nov 21, 2018 Eh, this thread more closely represents the democratic socialism of Nordic countries. America as a whole is far more conservative, its political leadership to the right of them even.
Nov 21, 2018 Oh yeah if they keep it all to themselves thats greedy af of course. But the simple fact that they earned so much (a good invention/great busines men or whatever) alone doesn't make them greedy imo. @Zeugma that point I do agree with. Same problem I have is football players (or other sports/professions) making millions a year. Disgusting if you ask me.
Nov 21, 2018 would bad regulation be worse than the current situation though? also your view on this is crazy (and hella class contempting -sorry if it's not the proper phrase, i looked for a translation for this one-), you really think billionaires became billionaires because they were not lazy or ambitious? come on
Nov 21, 2018 Ambitious is not wrong though. Mostly they are very smart and/or very lucky as well Not lazy though, lol most people that work really hard hardly get any money for it (generalizing it a little but still)
Nov 21, 2018 Not disgusting at all. I would more concerned about agents making money rather than players. Nearly all the best football players came from underprivileged backrounds. Coming from that backround gives them the mental strength & drive to get a better life. Happens so often.
Nov 21, 2018 Wealth is a product of society. It should go towards the betterment of that society. It's a social contract. Pretending immense concentrations of wealth is the product of "working hard" is just as fallacious as pretending widespread poverty is the product of "laziness".
Nov 21, 2018 No system is ever going to work perfectly. Do you think the system we have now is working? Look at the wealth distribution we have now. I'd rather have billionaire tax dollars fund some some NEETs in the process of helping disenfranchised people. Do you really think the amount of people who are lazy losers with no drive are greater than the amount of people striving every day who are held back by systems put in place to hold them back?
Nov 21, 2018 i don't think they are (at all), but even if they were, that's not what has made them successful. or do you think teachers, professors, etc are less "smart" because they make less money? i'm not sure they're lucky either because i'm not sure tremendous wealth makes people happy, but that's another conversation
Nov 21, 2018 Never said that, Every situation is different. Some billionaires just inherited money & are a lazy c---- & vice versa.
Nov 21, 2018 Yes but same w the billionairs... do they really need 10 million a year for playing a football match every week? I know its more than just that but come on. Football is destroyed by money that could easily be used to help (more) underprivileged instead of turning football players into arrogant little f---s. Agree w the agent comment, f---ing sharks lol
Nov 21, 2018 Imagine looking at soft-brained, incontinent Donald Trump and thinking "wow, wealth and power really are given to the best, brightest, and hardest working". We live in an oligarchy, not a meritocracy.
Nov 21, 2018 Smart is different from intelligent. They found a way to make a shitload of money.. or are smart enough to do what they do -whatever business- and make a huge profit.
Nov 21, 2018 This thread has less to do with athletes and more to do with team owners. Only the NBA has contracts stipulating half of the revenue goes to the players. The vast majority of athletes are also having their labor exploited, they're just in a richer industry than somebody who works at a retail store.
Nov 21, 2018 english isn't my first language so i'm not sure i get the difference, but if smart means "being able to make a shitload of money" then i don't see how it's a quality that could justify their indecent wealth
Nov 21, 2018 Owners, agents, athletes.. there is so so much money going around (also in arts etc.) that could be used to help people in need. I do agree w the point u tried to make in OP
Nov 21, 2018 "let's actual people we know nothing about starve and die because we have in mind a hypothetical lazy f--- who would use useless money" (btw i like you mikey, it's nothing personal, it's just for the sake of the debate)
