Jul 19, 2019 The opposite. Decent verse but it goes to s--- when he switches flow around the Nicki Minaj line...
Jul 19, 2019 His switches were fine on this track! It’s f---in fire!! I think the problem in general is how drastic the changes are for some people. Switching things up is fine. Going from just his deep grating scratchy voice to a smooth layered higher pitched sounding voice then the beat stops, a kind of choppy slightly higher pitched voice/flow mixed with pausing for emphasis, then he’s speeding up his rappity rap s---, and so on. The transitions aren’t seamless like they used to be. s---, they weren’t an issue until 2012-13. Plus, he’s soooo f---in great at building the passion and intensity gradually over a song.. I always loved his ability for that. Miss that s---. Also, there’s a massive difference between switching things up far too often and spitting the same way the entire song never changing s---. Em needs balance. This s--- isn’t black and white.
Jul 19, 2019 I don’t get it, never f----- with Conway before this but def not understanding the praise. He sounds sorta like Trick Trick His verse was literally only about guns and cocaine...lol. The Dame Lillard line was the only thing worthy of a mention. No substance ♂️
Jul 19, 2019 Expected more. Average and recycled material. NOBODY gives a f--- about 20 years ago w Ja and Canibus. It was dope in that era. Let it be Sorry Em. Hope your next solo s--- is dope as KAM
Jul 19, 2019 DAS shout was cool. I hate how they record nowadays.. sending files as opposed to feeling the energy and feeding off of each other. Hot potatoe s---. Joe/Pun Red/m--- etc.. That’s how it should be done with the real lyricists. If these two hopped in the booth at the same time, then Em is straight in his lane on another planet. That Busta Em track was a let down.. as well as Tech, Sean even the new s--- w 50. Ugh
Jul 19, 2019 Solid verse by Eminem, I was scarred when he said in the sway interview he really didn’t want to say “fa----” because it would hurt other people like wtf...what makes Eminem, Eminem is he says whatever the f--- he wants it doesn’t matter if it offends people or if it’s “2019” but with verse he seems to go back to being edgy, raw, offensive and NOT GIVING A FUQQQQ. Who cares if the references are dated still makes for good subject matter. Give this man some respect.
Jul 20, 2019 This is gonna be a long winder, all over the place post lol Is the beat not the same as it was in the snippet? Sounded that way to me. I know that guy said he had a RIP mac line, but did he say the beat never changed? I'm sure EM does several versions of verses before he finalizes it. I say he prolly records it and sits with it for a few days and sees if he has any better ideas hit him. I know alot of people seem to not like flow changes, but me personally I dont like when someone uses the same flow for an entire song, I like the switch ups. I also dont understand this repeated argument of " I cant bump this in the whip" that's strange to me. I feel like I cam vibe out to anything I like. If the pace, or flow switch ups disturb your vibe, I'm guessing you require a constant pace, or you dont enjoy technicality in lyrics or delivery. Maybe my ADHD is why I enjoy switch ups and intricate patterns and double or triple meanings, but the " I cant bump this in the car" thing is weird to me....as well as this notion of people saying they feel like people will make fun of them or judge them for listening to certain things. That's a pretty fragile spirt if you're concerned of ppl not agreeing to your taste in music or what you enjoy. ESP in a genre that for the most part was originally filled with originality and being yourself to showcase what made you unique as an individual and not if you could follow suit to another sound. I think it's normal for artist who study this genre to pull from their idols and combine it with themselves. Kendrick is a good example of someone from recent years, that you can see certain traits of his idols he studied. Benny the butcher is another. He feels like biggie, the lox, pusha t style rolled into a buffalo cat. And with Em you can see alot of things he grabbed from, LL, treach, outsiders, and dre of course, so when I hear "I cant bump this in my car" it comes off to me as you're saying it's not the sound everyone is chasing. Maybe a travis Scott, melody driven, or over app mood music i guess. (I say travis bc I feel like alot of ppl are into his sound and chase his energy, which I f--- with travis, but I enjoy him more as a feature) BUT what I'm getting at is maybe I'm just older than alot of people on this forum, so I've seen older artist form into the legends they are and have seen them take their inspirations and mold them into their own. So I understand Em switching flows, f---ing with production to fit around his vocals so the track feels bigger, more epic, or unique to him, instead of him just rapping over the beat as it is. This guy lost alot of good years to drugs and all he loves is hip hop and writing. So when I see him doing this stuff I see someone who is obsessed and is a certified legend, but still hungry and still trying to grow his technical skill set. I felt like revival was prolly a 7.5 or 8 album. He started with walk on water speaking to his fans as a normal guy, hearing the comments and how hes overthinking, and that hes letting you in, past the facade, past the ego, past his normal stories of his family, hes letting you see his relationship between his work and how the genre is revieving it, and its troublesome to him bc it was always where he felt accepted, then he builds it up into believe and then spazzes on the original chloraseptic. Me personally I'll take MMLP2 and kamikaze EM over his first 3 albums. I love his writing, and the layers of alot of his analogies, his usage of synonyms to connect the thoughts into the punchline, and how he has wordplay in just normal parts of bars that aren't the punchline. Alot of ppl have wordplay for the end of the bar, but guys like Jay and EM seamlessly do it in the beginning or middle and make it so subtle. " I got a couple of mansions, still I dont have any manners (manors)" idk, I've always enjoyed technicality and flow switches when its delivered right. And i feel like hes being hitting the mark for quite some time now, except for s--- like right for me lolol. But i can vibe to it, I feel like I'm studying it. I'm combing through to catch the wordplay, refrences, and analogies. I feel like if you want something to just zone out and not pay attention to, and just go solely for sound...why not just listen to instrumentals? The lyrics are what was supposed to set hip hop apart. You have more room to say things than any other genre and you have the chance to be wittier, unique, and be you, theirs no limits to what you can write, and I feel like artist and consumers arent taking advantage of any of that.
Jul 20, 2019 I honestly think he hesitated bc his daughter whitney is BI lol. Sometime around revival, idk if it was here or where it was but ppl where showing posts from Whitney's gram I think about her being bi and having pride about who you are. So I've always thought that's why he dialed it back
Jul 20, 2019 I feel like there's not even a good or bad with Eminem anymore, its just Eminem. He does his Eminem thing. Its not for me at all but I'm glad his fans enjoy it. Also really glad Conway will get some shine from this. He's been killing it recently and if this is on his album it'll give some some much deserved exposure. The instrumental is insane too.
