Jan 26, 2020 - i don’t think anyone needs to write more about his decline but maybe in the future i’ll write something about what i think works well on relapse - i thought those kinda nights was kind of embarrassing but didn’t wanna dwell on it - you are of course right that criticism that reduces art to good/bad political binaries is bad; there is of course a long history of critics grappling with the moral content of art, and that can be very compelling too.
Jan 26, 2020 That darkness is a bland, dull song and his writing suffers in it. You are not moralizing but I wish you were because you are either plain wrong from the techical perspective or not giving him enough credit. Ok, but its not like I've never heard another rapper or rap song. I hear them, I find them inferior to eminem. I do read a lot and love a good written word, from that perspective I can say Eminem is an amazing writer. Coupled with the flows I enjoy, I know enough to say Eminem is a brilliant rapper. And I mean that literally, I consider Eminem a genius. Genius doesnt mean flawless, I have my fair share of disapproval towards his work, for example entire MMLP2, but as popular as Eminem is, he still doesnt get enough credit.
Jan 26, 2020 I don't really see how Eminem is 'technically' impressive on this album. One of the most unintentionally funny moments on the album is when he calls out rappers for being unable to hit the kick and the snare while he hasn't been on beat for the past 10 years.
Jan 26, 2020 "that that...is bad"...can we change this thread to "pseudo as f--- loners dissect genius writing?"
Jan 26, 2020 which is a simple statement of fact. what of it? one gets a different impression looking back on your posts around the time Kamikaze dropped. if not livid, they were certainly acerbic, even for you and why is Eminem uniquely singled out as having this "creative problem"? it is an objective fact that white males come under much more fire for anti-gay slurs than POC, who largely get a pass by the SJW left. as a leftist/marxist type yourself you can understand my skepticism at such surface criticism as Eminem simply coming across as "shrill and exhausting." I sense something deeper
Jan 26, 2020 Saw the darkness video on YT and I do agree that the song is underwhelming. He found the simplest of angles for his double edged story possible (“the shooter was waiting for the show to start, so do I when I perform let’s draw that analogy out for two verses!”). The “revelation” at the end is total cringe because of how in your face the double entendres are. It reminded me of the terrible 25 to life song on Recovery, which suffered from similar flaws. The beat is boring af as well.
Jan 26, 2020 The video for sure gives "the revelation" away through imagery but if you listen to just the audio, on first listen the implication is that he's going to k--- himself, not a crowd of people...you arent intelligent enough to criticize actual talent...fyi
Jan 26, 2020 yeah saying “double entendre” in the first verse right after saying things like “tear up the stage” and “I need more than a colt45” doesn’t give it away it all lol. But keep telling yourself the song is deep and intelligent Stanley
Jan 26, 2020 Nas found the simplest of angles to write about a gun Newton found simplest of angles to talk about gravity. Oh an apple fell, things fall Dont think for a second you would have figured out hes talking about stephen paddock if you havent seen the discussion here.
Jan 26, 2020 So everyone thinking the song is intelligent HAS to be a stanley? Lol no need to be such a snob man
Jan 26, 2020 I don't think he's a real snob. He just doesn't like eminem. And while I think darkness is clever and really good it actually is one of my least played songs because I like others more sonically, regardless of the concept/lyrics. Its just that @Slyk and others made plenty of in depth posts about the song and why they think its good, so saying they are all just stans or calling it 'dumb little song' like wpg did is kinda insulting for no reason.
Jan 26, 2020 yeah you’re probably right having gun and shooting-related references as well as Las Vegas in one verse doesn’t give it away at all
Jan 26, 2020 Oh I see, no no, you're close, but just a little off. I'll help you understand. See, "tear up the stage" could refer to doing a good rapping job performance AS WELL as shooting up the show, see? f---ing moron? you have to consider first time listening ears without knowing what the songs about, f--- twat, get it? obviously not - you silly cocksucking f--- wad of a dumb piece of s--- garbage idiot human whos opinion no one respects...learned?
