Apr 2, 2020 I told you my company is UK based. They let go 25% of their UK staff on furlough until June. Luckily there furlough pays 80% of your salary (20% by the company 60% by the govt). That s--- would never happen here lol you'd just get let go
Apr 2, 2020 Yeah, I've been furloughed as well. So my job is secure. For the time being at least. 80% up to £2500 a month paid by the government with my Company topping above that if 80% is higher than £2500. It's a s--- world right now. I just wish this wasn't a thing at all. Hope everyone else is doing as best as they can in this time.
Apr 2, 2020 so,.. this this is airborne, right? and they're refusing to call it that due to hysteria?
Apr 2, 2020 legit over 2% of the population of spain has tested positive... which probably means 10% since it's likely not everybody is getting tested (unless it's different over there than here).
Apr 2, 2020 they've called that when it started?? That's why people are wearing masks. Every day they specifically say to stay away 6 feet due to the droplets from someone sneezing or coughing.
Apr 2, 2020 Work is paying me for 2 weeks while staying home but said they aren't sure what's gonna happen after that..they might have to eventually fire some people, they were trying not to. We aren't even closed down but a lot of the employees aren't working, we typically do like 300-600 reservations a day and now are doing like 20 a day.. I doubt I'd even risk going back to work at this point even if they wanted me to anyways, so not sure what's gonna happen. Feel like I might be out of a job soon cuz I think it'll still be a while till this is over.
Apr 2, 2020 I wouldn’t compare this to 9/11 in any sense other than it’s going to be a defining moment for our generation that shapes the world to come. For millennials in the USA I’d say: 9/11 Internet/social media/smart phone Coronavirus Are prob the biggest ones
Apr 2, 2020 Nope. Every outlet and resource has officially been reporting it as “droplet” from day 1, with some scenarios where it can become an “aerosol”. Its vehemently been classified as not being airborne (though, you will find some articles where it’s highly debated, but hasn’t ever been classified as being so). The scenario highly reported where it can aerosolize greatly is during intubation. I think it’s becoming more aware/plausible that it can also aersolize when sneezing or coughing. To better define (because I’ve gone down this giant rabbit hole today) the differences between droplet, aerosol, & airborne: - droplet has larger particles in diameter/mass and therefore quickly submits to gravity and falls to the ground/surfaces. This is why you shouldn’t touch things and then touch your face - aerosol is basically a “temporary airborne”, or a “conditional airborne”, where it can live in the air for a certain amount of time, but then eventually dissipates, adheres to gravity, or dries up and dies and becomes non-contagious at the volume of molecules in the air - airborne vs droplets is a much more gray area when distinguishing. From what I’ve been reading, it pertains to molecule diameter (and possibly how long it remains contagious in the suspended/aersolized state). ...here’s the scientific definition regarding droplet vs airborne: "Coronaviruses form enveloped and spherical particles of 100–160 nm in diameter." reference for the next quote: 100 nm = .1 μm "Airborne particles embrace a very wide range of sizes, mainly of solid material or droplets floating in the atmosphere. The smallest being only a few nanometres in diameter whilst the largest range up to 100 μm in diameter. Particles with a diameter smaller than 10 μm are able to remain airborne for a long period; in some cases those particles can stay in the air for several weeks, while those particles with a diameter larger than 10 μm are large enough to deposit quickly under the influence of gravity." Sources are well cited: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2095177920302045 https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/engineering/airborne-particle ......meaning that covid is WELL within range of being categorized as not only airborne, but airborne enough to hypothetically stay in the air for extended periods of time (by a factor of 100). The unknown is how long it remains contagious in the air before it dries out and dies + how much of the contagious molecules you need to ingest before becoming infected. I think this is largely unanswered in the scientific community thus far and I’ve seen sone conflicting opinions from testing...in which case, I understand why agencies are saying it can aersolize, without using the term airborne, but based on my rabbit hole of searches, it seems like if the contagion levels remain when aersolized, and it’s enough in that air to actually infect someone, then it technically is “airborne”. Both of those are unknown. Basically: media outlets have been loudly reporting it as “droplet” since day one. And not-so-loudly mentioned aerosol, but identified intubation as the large offender in a hospital setting. And haven’t called it airborne at all. Might be due to lack of enough definitive supporting data, but it’s also less fear-inducing to say its “droplets” and not airborne because airborne is mass hysteria. Which...tbh, people kinda needed to hear a couple weeks ago to take the distancing thing even further.
Apr 2, 2020 Humans are f---ing dumb c----. ~6 months ago "awwooo wooo woo were gonna die from climate change and global warming! The earth is overpopulated! Humans are trash we just k--- everything in the name of greed, economics and money! ((( EXTINCTION EVENT!! " Today: "OMG SO MANY PEOPLE ARE DYING TO THIS VIRUS AND WE JUST STOPP LIKE 75% OF GLOBAL WARMING OVERNIGHT SOMEBODY k--- ME PLEASE, WAITING FOR THE VIRUS... THIS IS UNBEARABLE! HOW WILL THE ECONOMY RECOVER!?!?" who fucken cares, this is what happens deal with it
Apr 2, 2020 /info research done myself by searching until I could find the molecular diameter of covid + defined characteristics of droplet vs airborne. Feel free to correct the math or check the sources.
Apr 2, 2020 Last post on this for me rn, but take into consideration that there was a choir practice at a church in Washington on March 10. 60 people attended. None indicated that they experienced symptoms at the time...45 out of the 60 have since tested positive for covid. This doesn’t necessary eliminate the possibility that it’s strictly droplets by any means, since you’re exhaling spit particles when singing, but that’s a LOT of droplets to be passed from hypothetically just 1 person to 44 others in a small period of time, when it was likely that they weren’t all physically within 6 feet of one another.
Apr 3, 2020 9/11, Swine Flu and Hurricane Sandy are nothing compared to this. At least with those situations, there was some sense of overcoming it. This s--- has fundamentally changed society in very uncertain terms and even if we get through it, the repercussions are going to be massive. It's crazy that the hospital I was born in is now the epicenter of this virus.
Apr 3, 2020 WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!! Load your guns, stock on ammo and medication and hit your bunker. I’ll see you guys on the other side in about a month, maybe.
