Yeah as s--- boring as golf is it's still more fun than reading the names of 100,000 dead. I'd golf too

I thought this article displayed a very interesting point of view (I really like Matthew Crawford, he's a competent philosopher). go beyond the headline

@Zeugma Yeah I’m sorry man but I’m really not into this dude.

Sure, I don’t doubt that governments are already using the virus as an excuse to change certain things with an ulterior motive, but I mean...duh? People in the USA (I can only speak for my country) are barely following quarantine anyway and trust ing the government isn’t exactly our country’s specialty, for better and for worse. And the government doesn’t need a pandemic as an excuse to pull off shady s---.

He talks about sunlight killing the virus and we know that sunlight doesn’t actually help prevent it (look at all the cases in hot/humid countries). He’s just using this article as a thinly veiled way to complain about how unfairly conservatives are treated in this country (sounds like a snowflake 2 me!!!). Reminds me of j*rdan p*terson where he uses a bunch of smart-sounding words and terms he made up himself and it looks like he’s thinking in high concepts at a glance but it’s really just a bunch of nonsense. He b------s about “political warfare” as if it’s not an issue from both sides lol. Blah blah blah he’s bitching about political correctness and making some dumb “link” between that and people thinking it’s a good idea to quarantine because of a deadly virus.

My old roommate I mentioned before who’s working for the company testing and creating the vaccine lives in Boston and in Boston it’s currently required to wear masks in public. I trust him and a city that’s the hub for medical research and is making the vaccine over some faux intellectual welder.

no problem man! I was genuinely interested in your thoughts about this and I knew you'd probably didn't agree with him!

he's actually a competent philosopher as I said in my previous post, and he's both a conservative thinker, which you seem to dislike, and a true marxist anti-capitalist. I agree that the link between the quarantine and the political agenda he's here denouncing is tenuous, to say the least, and that there are scientific mistakes in the paper - but I still thought the point of view was interesting! sorry if you felt like you wasted your time reading it...

Nah I don’t think it was a waste of time at all! It’s healthy to read stuff that challenges your beliefs so you’re not in an echo chamber.

I’m curious about his views on capitalism however if you have a link.

not sure about articles online - I've read (in french) and really liked his 2015 essay "the World Beyond Your Head", a Weil-an (i don't know, what's the english adjective for Simone Weil's philosophy?) critique of the constant and brutal monetization of our attention in today's capitalist society.

(^ my english never feels more painfully broken than when I try to speak about philosophy or politics so here you go lol, hope it makes sense)

Nice. We're a little way behind. Bars/restaurant, cinemas and hairdressers open on the 4th July. Gyms on the 16th Jul (I think).
Just need mass gatherings now but I guess that's going to be a long way off.
