it's cute how you try to inject the appearance of nuance through this graf then end it by hamfistedly equating the police murdering yet another black person in minneapolis with a target being ransacked.

what is the "mob mentality" that you have a problem with? is it the people protesting an unending string of state violence? should they have all held signs with their bullet-pointed disagreements with the other protesters?

"crippling economic violence" is not taking a nintendo switch from a corporation worth $60 billion. "crippling economic violence" is divesting budgetary funds year after year from things that would help communities and toward the police department.

i know you decided some time ago that community organizers are feckless losers, but at least they're trying––with vanishingly few resources––to keep people safe and make their neighborhoods better places; this includes the people who are out in the streets cleaning up debris in masks right now.

you are far too smart to not see that delegitimizing one kind of protest gives the cops a blueprint for how to turn public scrutiny away from them and onto the people they're murdering. the ideological middle ground you're looking for doesn't exist.

would like to also point out, to all you ppl who think there's a "right" way to protest, that over the past five years there are numerous instances of so-called "open carry advocates"––white men who parade around with assault rifles in plain sight––who march through downtowns, try to provoke security and police at businesses, and even occupy government buildings. these people are not arrested, or tear gassed, or hit with flashbangs, or pounded with rubber bullets, or knelt on until they suffocate.

if a single black person brandished an ar-15 last night the minneapolis police would have shot a dozen people, no doubt.

there is no behavioral threshold for "acceptable protest"; protest is acceptable when it's done by a certain kind of person, and it's unacceptable coming from anyone else.

Change is slow & that’s part of the reason why we have so many violent outbursts like this. I mean you do acknowledge there is value in political violence even if you don’t fully support it, right? That was my issue. Even the examples you mentioned: The Stonewall Riots started the LGBT movement in the U.S. The Black Panthers were mostly peaceful but its leadership embraced violence. h---, all it took was them patrolling the streets with assault rifles for Governor *Ronald Reagan* to ban ARs in the state of CA. The mere threat of violence pushed change.
