If you have to watch Alien 3, watch the Assembly Cut. Significantly more tolerable than the theatrical version.

Just saw this one myself and was really impressed. Mostly void of political or historical context, it instead opts to be an extended suspense piece and breathlessly paced survival tale. It's no nonsense filmmaking with traces of humanism throughout that allow its genre elements to also convey an affecting anti-war message.

    Nice recap overall :emoji_thumbsup:
Can one appreciate Pasolini without having seen a Pasolini film? :emoji_neutral_face:

Probably a good time to remind everyone that Baumbach's Kicking and Screaming (which is on Criterion) is legendary.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya was magical. The animations, the simple story, the music, everything was simply amazing.

I think i found my favorite Noir Film, or at least one of my favorites

In a Lonely Place (1950) sells itself as a suspense picture, I would say it's a love story hidden behind a murder case.

The Script is really brilliant, one of my favorites ever, a lot of quotable lines. The story is fantastic, i like how the character of Bogart plays with us, we already know the answer of what we're looking for but Dix's nature is so psychotic it keeps us on the edge of my seat and actually makes us doubt.

Cinematography and camera movements are really great as well, along with Bogart's acting the atmosphere created was very unique, seems like i have to check some other Nick Ray films.

In a Lonely place is already one of my favorite films of the 50's, i guess i have to built my Top 15 of the 50's. 9/10

    Some other films

50 Shades of Grey 4/10 I think it's amazing that this movie is actually better than Lynch's Dune, weird comparisson but true.

    Umberto D (1952) 8.5/10
The Discreet Charm of The Burgeoise 8/10
    Taken 3 5/10

I've never been a big fan, but Michael Koresky argues eloquently in praise of Tarantino's Death Proof. It's long but worth a read.
