It was a bona fide cultural phenom when it came out - t bone burnett's soundtrack especially. It also marked both a turning point in the Coen Bros. career (Oscar nod for writing the adaptation I believe) and, arguably, affirmed Clooney's status as a movie star (channeling Cary grant type slapstick won him a golden globe if I'm not mistake )

Saw A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence last night...I did not like it. I found it belabored and repetitive and can't say I get Roy Andersson's films at all. I know his work resonates with a lot of cinephiles, but I'm not one of them.

On the positive side, I quite liked Results by Andrew Bujalski and Heaven Knows What by the Safdie brothers...both solid.

That extremely racist scene near the end was gross.

I saw Il Gattopardo again yesterday, i prepared for this rewatch properly (i read the novel). It was an amazing experience, this is a magnificent epic that unfolds slowly and eventually shows its true colors at the last sequence, Il Gattopardo deals with invevitable decaying of humans, morals and as a consequence society in general, all told through the eyes of the protagonist. At first we are set into a very political time and we see Prince Fabrizio views on the era, he realizes that everything has to change in order to stay the same and must face his time has passed, he wont last forever and this is where existentialism problems comes.

Dialogs have never been as insightful as this and the performance by Lancaster was great, even though he was dubbed his pressence was huge.

10/10 One of my favorite films ever

^I need to check that one out! Now that I finished my test, I'll have to work on catching @Old_Parr on the S&S list.
If we are thinking of the same scene, I'm sure some sort of social commentary was intended, but it came out of f---ing nowhere.

    Girlhood was awesome, btw.

Here is Indiewire's halftime critics' poll of the best of 2015 so far (Mad Max in the top spot). Duke of Burgundy is definitely my big blind spot so far.

Typical Mann piffery tbh. Features some of his greatest action sequences yet and the use of photography and sound is impeccable, perhaps at his most abstract aesthetically.

I'll just link one of my favorite pieces on it because I can't really go into detail atm http://reverseshot.org/reviews/entry/1989/blackhat

Most of the good writers on the web gave it high praise tbh.

    James Gray, Ranked:

    The Immigrant, 96
    We Own the Night, 95
    Two Lovers, 94
    Little Odessa, 91
    The Yards, 90

All 5 star films. Dope. Gonna rewatch the immigrant soon, having now seen the rest of them in order. Don't think anything will change, but who knows.
