I don't agree...and I'm not speaking on H8ful 8 cuz I've yet to see it...but look at Grindhouse. Like, if you walk away criticizing its B-movie aesthetic, you clearly missed the boat. Totally valid point in the right context

The Revenant was cool. Not much more to say about it.

The section of The Hateful Eight we're talking about doesn't work on a story telling level. It's redundant. I'm saying that can't be excused just because a section such as that should/could be in the movie. It's one thing to understand why something is the way it is and another to talk about whether it works that way or not. There were definitely ways to execute it better.

I clearly agree with Grindhouse given my statements about Death Proof one page ago. I don't like it, but I understand it. This isn't the same situation.

"Well, I think the word “spiritual” gets me off the hook. I just shot it and wrapped it recently, and it has nothing to do with Dazed and Confused other than it would be set four years later, when one of the younger characters went off to college. It’s a party film. It’s really about the beginning of school, not the end of the school year. I guess personally or autobiographically it’s kind of in that realm, but it’s also a continuation of Boyhood, believe it or not. I don’t know if one film can be a sequel to two different movies, but it begins right where Boyhood ends with a guy showing up at college and meeting his new roommates and a girl. It overlaps with the end of Boyhood."

seems more along the lines of Bernie and Bad News Bears, at least in tone. It's interesting what a dual personality Richard Linklater is. He's certainly a storyteller first and foremost, and none of his films are particularly cinematographic. And for me there's a great contrast between his personal/sensitive films like the Before series, Boyhood, Dazed, and even Waking Life with his equally personal but much more 'fun' films like School of Rock, Bad News Bears, Bernie, and, from the looks of it, Everybody Wants Some. I'm sure it will at the least be a good watch.

Trailer looks bad. Pretty sure it's just selling it to the college movie audience. Linklater is too good to flop.

Guys, I have some tragic news. I was watching The Force Awakens and there were just 15-20 minutes left and s--- was getting real, but then suddenly...the f---ing fire alarm went off!!!

It was a false alarm but the wait was too long to restart, so as of now, I still don't know how it ends!

This world is a dumpster fire.

Tarantino said himself that Death Proof is his worst film--which I agree with.

But now that I've seen the Hateful Eight, this might be worse than Death Proof

i agree totally. and i'm huge fan of his films. i drove from virginia to maryland on christmas day for the roadshow 70mm version of this. the execution of the second half of this movie is what ruined it for me. the first half is good- maybe even great---but overall i don't think it was good and to me its definitely one of his worst films.

read hateful eight thread for more of my thoughts
