Directed by the inimitable classical Hollywood filmmaker, Douglas Sirk, and shot by famed cinematographer Russell Metty, All That Heaven Allows displays much of what there is to love about the so called Golden era: affable characters, striking painterly colours provided by Technicolor, and an inspiring tale of love and tragedy.

      I Killed My Mother 2009
      ★★★★½ Watched 06 Jul, 2015

Published at Aesthetics of the Mind:

An astounding debut by French-Canadian wunderkind Xavier Dolan conveying the stark reality of a mother/son relationship. The inspiring use of music, refrain, slow motion, and home video shows a creative talent as expressive as the Pollock-esque painting seen in the film. Dynamic in character and eruptive in action, the film reveals the anxious energy at the core of this always love/hate relationship between boys and their mothers. Dolan proves himself, at a young age, to not only be exceptionally conscious and self-aware but capable of channeling his insights through film.

      86/100 - Excellent.

Though lacking in the thematic unity and humanism conveyed in the original, this sequel brings much of the same thrills.

      Published by www.nextprojection.com:

Excerpt:An expressionistic fairy tale, The Red Shoes (1948) takes filming theater to new heights by using cinematic techniques in its rendering of performed fantasy. By doing so, the uncanny, somewhat haunting qualities of Hans Christian Andersen’s tragic fairy tale are made more deeply palpable and affective. An experiment in cinematic techniques, the film shows how through film, and the manipulation of recorded time, one can transform the performing arts.

THE OVERNIGHT - slight, but entertaining satire of LA and marital conventions. Jason Schwartzman has perfected his smarmy weirdo character soooo well. also the subversive sexual politics make this silly film pretty engaging. c it

dude same. such an underrated comedy tbh -- imo, its so much better than the usual happy madison production. allen covert is actually a decent leading man and the cast is insane. i LOVE jp's robot voice soooo much. also... "baby loves milk"

edit: @Bleed... midnight in paris is ur #2 fav film ever? wha

The proto-Coen Brothers black comedy masterpiece. My second time viewing it (both in the past year) and it's only gotten funnier. A tight 90 minutes that feels longer, but not in a bad way, no screen time is wasted meandering. Kubrick's humor is universal and the camp he manages to pull out of his actors is unrivaled. This came out when I Love Lucy was in syndication, but its humor really hasn't been dated at all. Of course the visual effects are a little iffy with the aerial shots and it's hard to tell if it should be night or day sometimes, but those are pretty minor. It's a biting satire on bureaucracy. Its characters are iconic. Its message is timeless. Not only is it Kubrick's best war film, in my book it's one of the best war films of all time.

Started to watch Insidious III, but got annoyed with how dumb and unlikeable everyone was at the very beginning and the bad acting made it cringe so I turned it off like 20 minutes in

Currently watching Joe Dirt 2 on crackle so far so bad I put it up there with Terminator Genysis as the worst sequels in the last 20 years holy s--- it's crazy to see how actors get to the point where they don't care how bad the movie is or what legacy it'll ruin as long as they get a check
David Spade in need of that crackle money
