    The Babadook 2014
    ★★★½ Watched 19 Aug, 2015

This was quite frustrating. The Babadook starts off so well, with abrupt cuts, a clean, somewhat minimalist mise-en-scene (in the vein of Stanley Kubrick), and sound effects effectively designed to startle. Through and through the film is superbly edited, shot, and lit, providing all the professionalism required for an exceptional horror film. Kent provides us with characters we learn to care about, and a mature vision of their psychological breakdown.

Then, it moves beyond the building of psychological authenticity into generic horror. What begins as a disturbing film exploring mental anxiety and human pain develops into a duplicitous shocker horror with a supernatural cause. Instead of retaining the horror of human madness (something like what The Shining does), Kent forgives the characters (son strangler and mother stabber alike) by allowing a real entity to take on responsibility for the happenings, and by extension the psychological journey and psychosis encountered. The end sees a family privileged to suddenly reset. This is much less terrifying than when life makes you crazy.

    Could have been a masterpiece.

    76/100 - Very Good.

Narrative contrivances and nonsense plot development aside, the format works: voyeuristic and personal. Needs work.

    70/100 - Good.

A Perfect film, and definitely one of my favorite Noir's. It gets better every time..10/10

I love this film so much, one of Sandler's finest performances, other than 'Rein Over Me'..these are the type of films he needs to do more of, this seriously needs a Blu-Ray release as well.. 9.3/10

Haven't watched it in a long time, but I still remember the twist very well.

Blew my mind on my first watch.

Cape Fear is very underrated to me, one of De Niro's finest works. Gangs of New York on the other hand is a mess

Saw this last night. Will is cool and Margot is fine as f---, but the movie itself was absolutely awful. Only watched an hour before I switched it off.

Oh good question, both are in the same ballpark to me but i prefer the remake. It's more intense and like i said, De Niro was amazing, He performed a real psycho in every aspect. Mitchum was creepy but mainly due to his screen presence. In my rating history in imdb and letterboxd both are rated 8/10
