Gotcha, I guess I just got confused because I treat the heart on there as Love rather than like. personally, I heart only films I give 5 star ratings. Thanks for checking out the site! :)

Not On Letterboxd: REFLECTION (Matsubayashi Yoju)

[REVIEW] 80/100 - Reflection (Matsubayashi Yoju)

The images never linger long enough to envelope the viewer or evoke a meditative state, something which the film’s images may have proffered under the command of a more poetically inclined and experienced avant-garde filmmaker. However, for a first-time experimental film, Yoju’s Reflection is rather exceptional.

it's officially the season for campy b-horror movies from the 80s :allears:

Super entertaining premise and the campiness is out of control in this one. Still need to check out the sequel because it seems to be just as cool. Underrated 80s gem.

Amazing mix of horror and comedy. Really original idea and the practical effects are disgusting to look at. The end of this movie is one of the best you'll find in horror.

Not bad. Franco and Hill were great. Good change of pace for them, taking on more dramatic roles. Movie overall is pretty creepy. Feels like plotlines and character arcs aren't tied up as neatly as I would have liked by the end but a good watch nonetheless.

I think I'm heading out to see this today. I wasn't really planning on it, Ridley has been hit or miss the past few years, even though I hold Blade Runner and Alien are in my top 10. I woke up this morning and decided I wanted to see a movie. Too bad I don't have the option to see it in 2D though.

The Martian is Ridley's best since American Gangster. It's sort of like Gravity, if it were longer, had an ensemble cast, and a better story. I really liked the set designs too. It's a shame I only had the option to see it in 3D. I love the attention to physical detail in Ridley's science fiction work; but the 3D detracts from being able to take it all in.

7/10 - nothing necessarily new, but should be a fun ride if you go into it blind. Most of the performances were solid, sans Donald Glover who felt exaggerated and out of place. Nice cinematography. See it in 2D.

For all the regulars, I saw Charlie Kaufman's new film Anomalisa, a stop motion semi-mind-bending psychological drama. It does not live up to his better work, but it is certainly and uniquely Kaufmanesque.

Why did you not give Eraserhead a five stars rate?!

I reserve 5/5 for movies I loved personally. I thought it was fascinating, but I really failed to connect with it in any significant way. It might do more for me on subsequent viewings after I've seen more Lynch or had a kid or something. I hated The Master on first viewing and now it's one of my favorite movies so who knows.

Is Dawn of the Dead "better" than Eraserhead? Probably not, but I laughed until my stomach hurt. Ratings aren't everything.

I watched Blade Runner for the first time this week & i was blown away. I couldn't believe the movie came out over 30 years ago, it felt so fresh.
My only issue, the dubbing over the dialogue, especially in places where you can tell the actors were saying something completely different, other than that, i will watch this movie over & over again, i can tell why it inspired so many people.

I also watched the entire ''Alien'' collection (excluding the tacky Alien Vs Predator movies) for the first time a few days ago.

Alien - Wow. What an amazing movie, i can't believe it has taken me so long to finally watch it, it is definitely one of my favorite movies ever at this stage, since I've watched it, i think about it alot.

Alien(s), Pt.2 - This was a nice watch, nowhere as good as the original, but it had its moments, when Ripley took care of Newt i found it to be beautiful, it felt like it was her trying to redeem herself for not being there for her own daughter. The original movie had the ominous feeling of the unknown, which this movie lacked, but i liked it for what it was.

Alien 3 - Surprisingly i hear alot of bad mouthing about this movie, & to be honest i really liked it, it had a real dystopian feel to it, before i watched it i knew that Newt would be dead before it even began, the only way it would of worked is with a re-casting, but that would ruin the continuity.
The inmates werent fleshed out as well as they should of been.
They should of f----- her over at ever opportunity, it would of added alot more suspense if the Alien wasnt the real treat, nonetheless i enjoyed it.

Alien 4: Resurrection - Meh, this movie had a great foundation but it just turned into a s-----y action movie, with a generic cast, the set was the only impressive thing about it. The dialogue was beyond terrible. The twist was obvious since the start. I'll never watch this movie again.

I haven't watched this in a long time; and I was flipping the channels the other day and came across it on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and it's just as great, as the first time. It was this film that I was smitten with Lana Turner, she plays a great femme fatale here; but also a vulnerable one at that. It's just a gut wrenching last act, but as Garfield's character does, it leaves you with peace.. 10/10

Another film I haven't watched in awhile and caught on TCM; and another masterpiece. A Perfect french Noir that grips you with the first watch, and won't let go. I'm glad I was able to catch it again on TV, I seriously need to get this Blu-Ray, I was going to get it last year or so..but other things came up, just a great film.. 10/10
