Yep, he didnt get much minutes because of the BIG logjam, but with Nerlens gone and Okafor might be on the way he should shine.

That being said... Vegan Okafor is really growing on me :emoji_slight_frown:

And Amir Johnson looked really good in the scrimmage, didnt play against Memphis.

Naw gimme Steph. 99% of NBA writers and media people will say the same too. Modest has some interesting opinions, but he's right.

That's a false narrative. It's true that Curry is the better shooter but he's also the better player in a number of key statistical categories and basketball situations.

Just to start he plays a more efficient brand of basketball and is more composed. He doesn't take as many mid-range jump shots or shots that he's not capable of making consistently leading him to shot better than Westbrook on virtually every spot of the floor (including shots at the rim). He's shown more of a willingness to play within the confines of a system which aids in teammates production, growth, and team chemistry, while allowing his team to perform better by minimizing to's and keeping his usg% at a winnable level (a player with an usg% > 40 effectively ruins his teams chance of winning anything but it will get you an MVP).

Statistically speaking Curry does have better shooting stats
    Stat - Curry vs Westbrook:

    FG% - 47% vs 43%
    2P% - 54% vs 46%
    3P% - 41% vs 34%
    FT% - 90% vs 85%
    TS% - 62% vs 55%

Look at there playoff shooting efficiency and it's a murder

The stats also show he's the better and more efficient scorer

He's better at converting from more areas of the floor than Westbrook:

    Westbrook also needed ~6 more fga/gm (24.0 vs 18.3) to score ~ 6 pts/gm (25.3 vs 31.6).

Situationally Curry is also the better scorer.

    In isolation scoring situation:
    Stephen Curry - 1.09 PPP - 52.1 eFG% - 93.4 percentile
    Russell Westbrook - 0.94 PPP - 43.9 eFG% - 71.5 percentile

    In transition:
    Steph Curry - 1.20 PPP - 65.5 eFG% - 68.8 percentile
    Russell Westbrook - 0.99 PPP - 54.1 eFG% - 31.2 percentile

    PnR ball handler:
    Steph Curry - 0.92 PPP - 53.7 eFG% - 78.4 percentile
    Russell Westbrook - 0.89 - 46.1 eFG% - 71.4 percentile

    Spot up:
    Stephen Curry - 1.33 PPP - 64.2 eFG% - 97.2 percentile
    Russell Westbrook - 1.16 - 60.6 eFG% - 87.6 percentile

    Hand off:
    Stephen Curry - 1.10 PPP - 63.8 eFG% - 85.8 percentile
    Russell Westbrook - 0.90 PPP - 46.9 eFG% - 47.5 percentile

    Off screen:
    Stephen Curry - 1.18 PPP - 60.5 eFG% - 90.5 percentile
    Russell Westbrook - 0.94 PPP - 47.4 eFG% - 53.0 percentile

Just looking at their games, offensively Curry just displays better decision making and fundamentals. It's most evident when you look at their conversion rate around the rim. Curry is shooting a higher FG% (59% vs 53.8) on shots < 10 ft from the rim. Despite Russ having a clear advantage in this category, due to his athleticism, he somehow manages to convert at a lower clip. If you watch him on drives to the basket it's clear why this is so. He often takes launches for a layup attempt off balanced, he'll take off from long distances and take angles that make making the shot improbably, he often comes in too hot affecting his ability to apply the proper touch to the ball and his ability to react to the defender, and he'll take without using proper technique resulting in wild attempts. This lack of control and usage of fundamentals is also prevalent in his approach to other scoring situations. Like taking ill-advised shots early in the shot clock, taking contested 3's when he's not a 3 pt shooter, taking pull up 3s, going an entire possession without passing the ball when you're the pg, and refusing to pass the ball even when the defense has you covered.

Defensively Russ has more potential than Curry but no one can say Russ played better defense than Curry last year. Curry isn't the impactful defender Kawhi is or Russ can be but he makes up for that with effort. He doesn't gamble when playing on the ball, he attentive playing off the ball, he doesn't leave the player he's defending in search for rebounds, and he doesn't contest perimeter shots at the rate of a center. Just by playing fundamentally sound defense he doesn't hurt his team.

As for rebounding Russ is clearly the better rebounder. He's the stronger and more athletically gifted player. But rebounding isn't that important from the PG position. Curry isn't a liability in that regard. The ability of your bigs to prevent offensive boards and your team's ability as a whole to corral defensive rebounds is far more important than the ability of your pg to grab uncontested defensive rebounds. So don't try and use that as a reason for Curry being the worst player when he's better in almost every aspect of shooting/scoring, he the more effective defender, and he plays a brand of basketball that more efficient and conducive to winning in the modern NBA.
