Dec 21, 2015 From Anakin arrives to Mustafar till the movie ends > Kylo. Other than that Kylo is way better than Anakin Well.. what is Star Wars to you then?
Dec 21, 2015 Maybe it felt like this, because you watched a cam rip. Can you specify more precise what you didn't like about it?
Dec 21, 2015 By fan film, do you mean like they made the movie too safe for it to be a disappointment for the public or?
Dec 21, 2015 Don't have time to address this fully atm but from what I remember: it is too safe, the whole movie is basiclaly just ANH repackaged, and ANH is without a doubt my least favorite SW movie. overall it just seems like a giant OT circlejerk and nostalgia based cash-in. the humor falls flat imo and seems badly placed at times. it's predictable as f---. there's an unnecessary amount of closeups where literally nothing is happening on screen and people are just staring at each other. gaping plots holes. Kylo's cringey. really meh duel where 90% of the time they're zoomed so far in on the actors you can't even see the fight properly. since when did blasters knock people that far f---ing back and up in the air like that? it's super 'gritty' and 'real world' based and the locations just aren't very interesting and the scope of things seems so small in comparison to the other trilogies. there's plotholes galore.
Dec 21, 2015 btw, huge applause for Harrison Ford for pulling out a flawless Han Solo performance.. I was a bit skeptical at first because of him trying to be Indiana Jones, which he failed. This time he really shows up, this is the same Han Solo from A New Hope, a older version (obviously), but it's the same, it's not Harrison Ford trying to play Han, it's Han Solo playing Han Solo, I loved it.
Dec 21, 2015 Star wars fans in 2005=wish it felt like the original trilogy Star wars fans 2015=feels too much like the original trilogy.
Dec 21, 2015 oh man this was so good, not even remotely disappointing after my rewatches, definitive Swizz ranking that will probably anger some nerds: The Empire Strikes Back: 9.5 The Force Awakens: 9 A New Hope: 8.5 Return of the Jedi: 6.5 Revenge of the Sith: 5.5 Attack of the Clones: 3 The Phantom Menace: 2
Dec 21, 2015 They definitely borrowed a lot from ANH but it was necessary considering the direction they were trying to go in. They wanted to move the story forward but also distinguish themselves from the prequels. For the first movie, I cut them some slack for it. I expect the next episodes to steer away from the OG trilogy. Even though the movie seems to be setup to be a rehash of Empire with Luke being the new Yoda, Rey's family ties being revealed (like Vader revealing he's Luke's father), the First Order having a decisive victory (like the Empire being victorious in Empire). I hope I'm wrong about that. There are differences though. Kylo is not as tough as vader. Rey seems to be more powerful than Luke was at the same age. Finn seems to have already has "Carbonite" moment. I'll remain optimistic.
Dec 21, 2015 i'll watch it again once there's a good copy available but I'm just very doubtful about it turning out well. and if they were trying to distinguish themselves from the prequels, fine, but they could've done so without completely rehashing the OT at the same time and giving everybody who was into the previous trilogy the finger at the same time. I have more faith in the next movies tho considering JJ's touch won't be like it was here
Dec 21, 2015 Two things: 1. f--- people who are into horrible s-----y films, why should you cater to that? 2. That said, nothing about this film suggests an intentional middle-finger to those three movies, other than the fact that it's actually really good.
Dec 21, 2015 a) a lot of people loved the prequels, myself included. don't think they're s-----y at all, in fact they're imo far better than the OT b) bs. the marketing and interviews and direction of the film and r----- strong OT influence says otherwise
Dec 21, 2015 A lot of people like the Transformers films, they're still utter sh--. The prequel trilogy deserve to be hated and shunned. It's a shame Disney didn't bin those along with the EU when they bought the rights.
Dec 21, 2015 Nah, they're great, and they deserve better than the bs people have put on them, especially when 90% of it is from the pov of someone with obvious nostalgia goggles and when it's almost all entirely hypocritical.
