Dec 16, 2016 Spoiler It was almost like playing him in Force Unleashed, that dude who was in the suit must have been dreaming to do that in a SW movie for so long
Dec 16, 2016 I really enjoyed it. fun film. A much better movie than TFA imo. spoilers ahead: things I liked: -vader's castle on mustafar was dope -vader in the bacta tank was great, one of the best scenes in SW -Vader slaughtering all those rebels at the end, vader in general was f---in awesome and the highlight of the film for me. wish he got more screen time. -The attention to detail was really good.. Enjoyed some of the call backs to a new hope -jyn was acted very well, much better than Rey - forrest whitaker was cool, liked the anti-vader touch. wish he got more screen time and referenced his days in the clone wars more as that's the era that hes from -the robot was probably the best character -last 30 minutes was good things I didn't like: - CGI leia and tarkin didnt feel right - a lot of the main cast felt kind of inconsequential, probably too many of those characters, would have liked fewer of those characters so that they could get fleshed out more -very little character development -jyn going from prisoner to leading the mission felt rushed -didn't like the flashbacks -missed opportunity in showing more of vader in his prime - beginning of the film felt weird story telling wise -wasnt a fan of a lot of the music -vader's choke pun was horrible and felt out of character. some of vader's mannerisms felt wrong -not a lot of mystery in this film. we knew what was gonna happen. I figured everyone was gonna die.
Dec 16, 2016 I really enjoyed the movie... I can't decide between this or Force Awakens. The last 10 minutes were f---ing amazing though.
Dec 17, 2016 dont go in this thread if you dont wanna get spoiled. simple you quoted my post so it wouldnt matter if i put it in spoiler tags now
Dec 17, 2016 The best scene of the movie Spoiler I just noticed he cuts the guy on the ceiling in half, holy s--- lol.
Dec 17, 2016 i'm surprised, i actually kind of want to see this now that i've read through these last couple pages. expect now that i'll like it far more than VII
Dec 17, 2016 It's way different than any Star Wars movie. It's more of a war movie. First half is slow, but the second half has a ton of action and great moments. I didn't connect to the characters as much as I did in Force Awakens, but I liked the actual story more than TFA. I really liked the new droid and the dude who believes in the Force, but is not a Jedi. There was specific missions and objectives during the battles. You knew what both sides were attempting to do, and it seemed like it all actually mattered, even if you knew the outcome. I'd still put ESB and ANH over it, but it's tough to tell if it's better than TFA. I had a lot more chills in TFA than in Rogue One, but I felt like I was more into the story of Rogue One than TFA, if that makes any sense.
Dec 17, 2016 I watched the Vader scene cause in general I just didn't care for this movie too much - except for hints on the new trilogy's lore. Heard about Vader scene and was like f--- it - easily one of the best scenes in the entire franchise. Also, hearing a bit about Vader and having a castle in Mustafa... In the old lore Mustafa is actually a big plot device a couple of times as it's seen as powerful in the dark side and there are a lot of Sith temples and Sith knowledge there. Wouldnt be surprised if Mustafa becomes a big thing in 8/9 - or for example is Snokes place of origin, of sorts.
Dec 17, 2016 I'll say this @Cyreides there's much more call backs to the prequels than in TFA. TFA really didn't mention them at all.
Dec 17, 2016 yeah, that's something i noticed reading through here mustafar always been my fav. planet in the saga also, i read something about the guy who played bail organa reprising his role from the prequels in this too, so that's neat if true also, vaders action scene looked way better than anything i saw in TFA, and more in line with the prequels saber-fighting wise
Dec 17, 2016 I know we have differing views on TFA, but I can understand where you're coming from. I loved TFA because it reminded me a TON of the OT, but I understand how PT fans feel segregated and left out. There really was no call backs at all for it. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the PT, I think they should at least acknowledge them, and tie them in. It's still a part of the story. Rogue One definitely feels WAY more OT though, and the first half is slow. Just a warning. There's no Jedi at all... As far as Bail Organa? Spoiler Yeah he's in Rogue One. It's well done, because he makes a reference to PT, but also OT in like 2 lines. It was pretty cool.
Dec 17, 2016 Yeah, and these were the reasons I wasn't initially planning to really go out of my way to see this back when I first heard about it, especially after I finally saw TFA but that vader scene looks incredible, and just knowing that this movie isn't completely shafting PT fans and practically flaunting it is a nice thing to know (even if there is some apparent storyboard conflicts behind the scenes regarding the direction this movie took/the saga/it's place in it). also, i was reaally uninterested in TFA's story after I saw it, but this (even with the obvious ending) appeals more to me, since i at least know in advance it's not just a nostalgia trip or OT beats drawn out of a hat.
Dec 17, 2016 Yeah, it's just a very different Star Wars movie. For me, it feels more OT, mostly because it starts, literally moments before ANH. But, it still does bridge the gap really well, in my opinion. They don't force anything, but they also don't ignore it. I think episode 8 will have some call backs to the prequels too, but I'm not totally sure.
Dec 17, 2016 I'm optimistic about that, since JJ isn't directing and this has it's fair share, but given he's still involved (can't remember as what, exec producer or something?), and they deliberately removed some from TFA (podracing flags for example), who knows Really tho, even if VIII doesn't have PT references, I can still be satisfied if it's just overall a better product imo than TFA. I want some more exotic locations (ie: something more than a desert planet and trees/snow), more aliens, more worldbuilding, and by god, some better choreography in the duels (hopeful about that one given that vader scene)
Dec 19, 2016 I think I have to give it to tfa at this moment. I just got back from seeing it and it was really good. Loved all the subtle attention to detail in this movie, from the color of the star destroyers to the sequence of button presses by the operators of the Death Star, it was great. There definitely feels like there was a lot cut from this movie I know about the reshoots, and if the film was too dark and they wanted to add humor to it you can tell in some places where they did(Vader's choke line for example). I'd love to see an unedited version of this. Another thing, possible spoilers ahead.... But where the f--- was the scene where jyn was face to face with a tie fighter? What the f---? Every preview showed that scene and it wasn't in the film.
