The case of Big Krit
let me just start off by saying that i'm a big fan of Big Krit, and i've been so since "Return of 4eva", then i went back and did my research on his other mixtapes, which more like free albums. Even though i did not like his Cadillicata or even the firstthe first major Album, i still think of him as a very talented producer and rapper.

This is where my frustrations come in, over the last two years, i feel that Krits music has stagnated, and the reason for this to me is because he is reaching for that mainstream hit too much instead of widening the lane he already has, and the music he is creating is just not connecting with the public because it is obious to see that he is out of his comfort zone.

between 2010 and 2012, krit released a furore of outstanding 90's sounding Southern music, this is what drew me to him because noone else has that sound perfected to a tee like he does and he's the one that actually made me go back and listen to them old UGK and MJG&8Ball albums.

The reason why i think Big Krit isn't as big of an artist and as recognised throughout the south as he should be is because what he has in representing that southern sound sonically, he lacks in representing that sound aesthetically. he has a bunch of great songs that he just doesn't make videos too, if he made great vintage southern themed music videos to these songs i'm sure he would be more appreciated in the south

Believe it or not these are three core Big Krit fans classics that have no visual aid to bring that Southern theme and sound to life,another case of a very talented rapper who doesn't know how to brand himself and doesn't have the right team around him to guide him into his own lane.

Rappers who i feel represent the Original sounds of their cities or coasts particularly well both with the their songs and music videos are YG and SKEPTA, one is from Compton and the other is from London, i'm not saying that either of them make better music than Krit, but i d--- well know that their respective stomping grounds appreciate them more than Krit is appreciated

This is just sad to me as i think it is the reason why (Barring the top tier mainstream rappers) that alot of artists are struggling to sell records, because alot of them are all trying to do the same thing for a hit which inturn turns into a bunch of artists sharing a fan base, which equals less sales ad the fans will just pick who is better at doing that one thing, Discuss.

The artists of the past were way more are of their selves and how they were perceived, which allowed them to zone in directly into their lane which is why they where able to build huge fan bases who ####ed solely with them, I.E DMX, OUTKAST, EMINEM, JA RULE, KANYE, DE LA SOUL, TRIBE CALLED QUEST, MOBB DEEP

I stumbled upon this post whilst browsing ItsBX, and whilst 90% of it is incoherent mumbling - the actual points he raises are extremely valid.

The quote that stood out most to me was:

I think this is 100% spot on to the point where the stuff KRIT has produced for others is more appealing than his own music. KRIT has no personality, or no real agenda within Hip Hop. He seems like the kid at school that everyone likes but no one is really friends with him because he's so quiet.

I'm unsure as to whether this may be the case of Def Jam holding him back, or the fact that he really doesn't know how to brand himself.
