May 3, 2021 Guys I'm in the UK. I can tell you right now hip hop hasn't meant anything over here probably since 2009 when the top 40 singles chart was filled with hip hop artists. Maybe wherever you are in the world the music channels on TV are filled with rappers and hip hop beats but here? It's done. Same with bands. I can count on one hand, Little Mix, One Direction........who else? You just don't see bands anymore. Same with rock music. 2005? Charts filled with rock music, filled with indie bands. Now? It's not a thing. Radio? Very few hip hop songs make it to radio here now. It's just not a thing and hasn't been a thing for many many years. Dre can drop Compton if he wants and he did and what did it amount to? Nothing. No radio station played anything, no music videos, no one talked about, it meant nothing. You said that as a joke to me but let me tell you this.....all those people that bumped 2001 back in the day here in the UK?..............They probably don't even know Compton exists and if they did they probably listened to 30 second samples and cherry picked the songs they wanted to listen and didn't even give the rest a full listen. It meant nothing over here. And don't get me wrong they all had good songs, they were good singers and performers, the Akon, the Black Eyed Peas, Missy Elliott, Sean Paul, Twista, Jay-Z! What was his last big song? That one with Alicia Keys and they sing about New York? Yup that's pretty much the last time the people in the UK heard of Jay-Z...and Alicia Keys for that matter. All good perfomers and who else, Busta Rhymes, Xzibit, Snoop Dogg. All played their parts up until 2010 here in the UK but after that......as far as I'm concerned and everyone else in the UK is concerned they retired, they're gone, we aint seen them in 10 years, they're songs haven't been in the charts, they're albums haven't been in the charts, no one listens to them anymore, it's been 10 years, it ain't likely to change anytime soon. But if it's different in other countries then it's great. I'll need to Youtube some of them some time. I'd love to see Sean Paul in 2021 singing and see what they're all up to. See if they're still doing the same kind of music they used to but as far as Detox goes, just let it be. I think even Dre knows that, it's been that long that anyone that had a passing interest has moved on. Stat Quo! The Game! 50 Cent! I haven't seen them since about 2010 either, I'll need to see what they're latest singles are and see what new albums they've released. Let it be with Relapse 2 and all the unreleased joints Eminem has had over the years. Let those who have heard tracks have their tales live on. Let it be folklore. The stories of the beats. The stories of the crazy rhymes cause the truth is? It probably would't live up to the hype. Let it be something that lives on in our imagination. And as a big Eminem fan, apart from Godzilla? You'd need to go way back to Not Afraid before you found a song radio over here played regularly. It's just how things are. Hip hop just ain't as popular as it was and hasn't been for many many years, at least here in the UK.
May 3, 2021 I blame the trap wave for that. Trap is very hit or miss (I include Uzi and Carti since it's pretty much the same s---). Hip Hop has never been big where I'm from unless it's people copying American Tik Tok's songs or small local stuff. Em was hot in 02 with TES and 8 Mile though.
