Dec 1, 2014 (Plz dont turn this into an atheist vs religion thread) Honest opinions? Of course none of us know but what do you guys believe?
Dec 1, 2014 I wish there was a heaven but realistically I don't think there is, don't even think there's much of a chance. I just think when you die, that's it....You're dead, you don't feel or do anything, you're just gone. I realize this is probably the most boring scenario but it's also by far the most realistic imo.
Dec 1, 2014 Kon pretty much said it. Really hope there's a heaven or an afterlife of some kind, or even another life but realistically this is probably the only chance we get to live and then that's it. We're gone. Forever.
Dec 1, 2014 I don't know. I like to think that DMT (the s--- in your brain that makes you dream) has something to do with afterlife/death. Your brain only pumps it out in very specific circumstances. 1. When you're body is in it's full sleep cycle 2. When your body knows it's about to die. I don't know about anyone else, but to me, that's pretty trippy s---. Why would your brain be pumping out the drug that makes you dream, moments before you die?
Dec 1, 2014 interesting you made this thread... i rarely talk about this type of stuff, but it came up at the bar on Friday as well. -the same thing as before you were born happens (whatever that is) -your "life energy" moves on to something else...someone mentioned that there's always been the same amount of energy on earth and that it just shifts from being to being -limbo -heaven/h---/afterlife ^i suppose all of these are potential. but the scariest scenario i came up with was what if this was all a big "dream"? you're currently in a coma, or you were never "born", etc. no matrix, but it's not that far of a reach to think that you could be imagining all of this -- when's the last time you experienced something that you possibly couldn't have imagined could be true prior to experiencing it?
Dec 1, 2014 also, somebody explain (or call bs on) this: http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/681...ife-identifies-murderer-and-location-of-body/
Dec 1, 2014 gonna call bs lol. google the headline and all the sites that pop-up are unreliable as f---, a few i glanced at www.abovetopsecret.com (tinfoil hat fuckheads) thespiritscience.net (f---ing lol) and not a single worthy news site for it. Deff bs. I know it shouldn't, but it does piss me off a little when people read/re-post these articles without actually googling to see if there's any hard evidence.
Dec 1, 2014 The thing is if there is something, and that something leads to another "life" as we know it (whether that means reincarnations or something else) - then why don't we have any recollection of it in this life? Probably pretty rare that this specific life is the origin point or whatever ya know? Or then, if there is some sort of afterlife then does that mean every single person ever has his own unique soul or whatever? How does that work? Seems pretty crowded lol. I don't think its your consiouness that lasts because to me that's soenthig directly tied in with your brain, which ceases to function once your body does. It has to be some sort of soul or essence or something, which raises its own questions. I agree with @CharlieWork about it being the same as before you were born, and Ive heard that sentiment repeated by many, but what I hate about that is that it implies there's no way to REALLY achieve any type of "enlightenment" in this lifetime. If so, someone in the past must have already (and maybe they have and no one believes them). Or it seems pointless to me if you just forget whatver enlightenment or knowledge you achieve when you die. Idk
Dec 1, 2014 You pass it on. What's the point of knowledge and wisdom if you don't share it? Everything you know you've built off of dead people's progress.
Dec 1, 2014 This goes with my belief that when you die, your consciousness is locked into a dreamlike state that creates a dreamworld using recollections of past experiences.
Dec 1, 2014 Yeah but my concern is with the act of solidifying what you believe you know. Like, it feels like it will always be just your morals and values you pass on. Things you believe. Theories. Nothing actually concrete. Nothing in this world is absolute in my opinion, good, evil, right, wrong, - not in the way religion claims it is. And so if that's the case, how can you prove any "enlightenment" you feel you've found to be true? How do you confirm any sort of spirituality in this world? The only answer is that how "true" something is isn't important. That it all about how much belief and importance you place in it. Which means everything is wholly personal and subjective in the end - even the answers to the universe so to speak. Because there's no way to "prove" anything. And that bothers me
Dec 1, 2014 But isn't cousiousness tied in with actual cognition and brain function? And doesn't that cease to exist when your body itself does? I've toyed with the idea sustaining someone's brain beyond the capacity of their body. THAT might lead to a type of surreal state that you're describing
Dec 1, 2014 I don't really believe in spirituality and enlightenment as metaphysical qualities. I do agree that nothing is permanent. The universe will inevitably end along with any trace of life or evidence that it was ever here. Does that make it futile? To some. To others it's just another truth like gravity that we deal with and take into account when we have to. I'm kind of a humanist/hedonist when I'm not being existential and that's where most of my convictions end. Getting buried in philosophical concepts doesn't appeal to me much.
Dec 1, 2014 It definitely appeals to me because I'm one of those people that could easily get lost in how futile it all is. But the act of using our minds to dig deep under the surface, and consequently get "buried in philosophical concepts," seems like a better way to spend our time than on achieving meandering man-made goals. @InLoveWithTheCOCO I'll check it out
