David Burd, better known by his stage name Lil Dicky, is an American rapper and comedian. He came to prominence with the YouTube release of the music video to his song "Ex-Boyfriend", which went viral with more than 1 million views in 24 hours.

Burd had been working on his songs and music videos for two years before he began releasing them as part of his debut mixtape So Hard in April 2013.

Once a week for 5 straight months, Burd released a new song or music video. Following the release of 32 songs and 15 music videos, Burd launched a Kickstarter, stating, "I've officially run out of money... In a nutshell, you are funding phase two of my rap career." The month-long crowdfunding period began on November 20, 2013, with the goal of raising $70,000 in order to enable Lil Dicky to create and produce more music, music videos, and go touring. The Kickstarter well exceeded its target, raising $113,000. Lil Dicky held his first live concert at TLA in Philadelphia on February 19, 2014. Burd has signed with Pop-Up, the management arm of creative music agency Jingle Punks. He plans "on having two concurrent careers going on at the same time, as a rapper, and as a comedian/actor/writer."

As Lil Dicky's popularity spread, even celebrities and sports superstars took notice. Kevin Durant tweeted on 9/19/14:

End of the intro and first two questions:

"I don’t think Dicky is a white supremacist, which he accused me of accusing him of being. That would necessitate him possessing a sense of historical context, coupled with a mustache-twirling evil that few possess. Instead, his crime is subtler, more common, and all the more sinister for it—it’s hard to think negatively about other people if, as Lil Dicky appears to do, you’re only thinking about yourself all of the time. If enough people with who are inherently privileged by being white and male act like this, then there's no room for society to progress. When I confronted Dicky about his inherent contradictions, he claimed no responsibility. “I’m pretty much just the messenger,” he told me. But the messenger for what?

Noisey: I heard that at your Irving Plaza show in New York you said, “Make some noise if you’re white!” and the response was overwhelming.
Lil Dicky: Yeah, I mean there’s a reason I asked that. I go and do white dude antics, and I acknowledge the entire room is full of white men, then I do a song called “White Dude.”

Talk about specifically “White Dude.” Something about it in the back of mind makes me go “hmm.”"


Clearly, he had an angle.

Never thought I'd ever hear myself saying "I can't wait for Lil Dicky's album," but I am.

One of my favorite rappers/people out right now. No doubt. Big expectations for Professional Rapper. Save Dat Money has been getting real nice radio play around here.
