The best boxing journalist in an era of great boxing journalism. I highly recommend this for anybody even with just a passing interest in the sport. It's a compilation of 18 pieces Liebling wrote for The New Yorker starting with the decline of Joe Louis going right up to the peak of Sonny Liston. He was also a war correspondent and covered racing. He is an excellent writer although you might need a dictionary at times. You should check it out especially @Flacko

Oh, and if anybody needs eBooks you can cop them here for everything in the public domain and using the links here for everything else. I like using a kindle with an eInk display, but there are some great apps for reading on a phone or tablet. I've used FBReader (Android) out of convenience before.

Started reading a book my dad gave me for Christmas called deal breaker, it's the start of a series I guess. Good read so far, the story's already got me kinda hooked and eager to see what's next.

Murakami is cool, hard boiled is better than The Wind up Bird Chronicle so far.

Blood Meridian's cool, much better than the turd that was The Road, although McCarthy's tries many times to incongruously mix Hemingway's style & Melville's without really doing an adequate job bridging the two.

This is my 5th time trying to read Ulysses, hopefully it goes well this time.

The rest I've dropped a bunch of times, only to try & pick it up back again. I can't just read one book at a time, i get really bored otherwise.

Reading a book called the last days of John Lennon, it's written by his assistant who was with him for the last 20 months of his life. It's much more interesting than I expected so far, still less than half way through it.

After almost never reading in the past, these last 5 months or so I've always been reading a book, usually at work. I've read probably about a dozen during this time.

Thanks for bumping this thread @Kon

This year I've read a bunch (below). Just finished my last book a few days ago and haven't started another yet. I would recommend all these books:

I also started and gave up on one book - Stephen King's Cell. It was just boring and overly descriptive for what was basically a zombie book.

    That Lennon book sounds interesting!
I never knew the movie was based off a book :lmaooo:

Thinking about reading The Catcher In The Rye. My grandma used to always tell me I should read it and gave it to me years ago and I still haven't read it. It's apparently a very polarising book in terms of the reception it got. Almost like Marmite.

But yeah I think I'm gonna read it and was just wondering if anyone has and if they liked it or not?

I do wanna start forcing myself to read more so if anyone has any other books they really enjoyed... for sure recommend them.

I believe I read that book years ago, and I enjoyed it. Some chapters are really boring, but what book doesn't get boring at some point? Lol

The Shining, Cujo, Christine, Carrie, The Stand, etc. by Stephen King are pretty good if you're into that.

Huge Stephen King fan, so I'm recommending

    The Dark Tower series
    It
    The Stand
Misery (one of his best and not very long, quick read)

I mean from what I've already read about people talking about it... there's supposed to be a deeper meaning to it all. It's supposed to represent growing up and the disillusionment that comes with it. A lot of people that dislike it seem to find the protagonist insufferable and whiny... but others say that's the point of the book. That a lot of people go through that cynical stage in life and the idea is that the reader identifies with that in some form. Sounds interesting to me.

And thanks for the recommendations :)

Let's get this thread going more often!

Been slipping on my reading lately, been busy with work, life, etc :emoji_slight_frown:

But 350 pages through 11/22/63 and it's great. Missing The Dark Tower immensely, I can't describe the itch

Also stopped reading World War Z 100 pages in. Not my kind of zombie book
