Aug 24, 2020Im a little bias bc ima Hov stan. But i second what @Grimace said mostly. To me, Elec cant finish a project on his own, but thats not to say he doesnt have the ability. I think Elec is just one of those creatives thats in the Dre, Kanye realm in the sense of they have to be IN LOVE with it throughout to finish something, and the second it feels a little off they throw it away or stop. Id say that man has uncountable sessions of material finished and unfinished thats just all dependent on his mood. I think when hes feeling good he says hes gonna drop and album, and then once he mellows out hes like "f---...im not close to being done" (kanye)
But that aside i think Jay was killing this.
Next time they bring up the Gods, you gon' respect us
That lil' vest ain't gonna do you, I s---t from neck up
I ain't even tryna hold ya, Magnolia Slim
I'm a soldier from that mode, I'm the ghost of him
From the era of police stretcher, no cameras catch it
Drop you off in a rival hood, you rather be arrested
If you didn't have no straps, you couldn't wear your necklace
n----s hand around your throat, that's a choker reference
My ancestors took old food, made soul food
Jim Crow's a troll too, he stole the soul music
That's the blood that goes through me, so you assumin'
I could never sell my soul, they sold they soul to me
Peaceful teaching of Rumi, but don't confuse me
You mouth off for the cameras, I make a silent movie
*stank face*

On contraire, to me it felt like Hov matched Jay Elect's esoteric subject matter to mesh with the project. Still feels weird seeing Jigga talk all that Black mysticism s---, but I can't knock how well he rapped on this project, he's still finding ways to finish that rubrics cube.skip, Ordinary Joel, RetiredAccount and 1 other person like this. -

Gonna say no, Hov might've edged him regarding who had the better verses, but a Jay Elec album has been so anticipated for so long that he felt like the main event either wayThy, Ordinary Joel, RetiredAccount and 1 other person like this. -

I think both carried their weight and performed on the same level tbqh. The fact Hov was a surprise guest that we didn't know about until people listened adds to the narrative that he overshadowed Jay Elec imoThy, Jay Zeus and Fire Squad like this. -

Absolutely. Jay-Z is the only reason this album was enjoyable in the slightest - it's been a rough decade for Jay Elec. The Moon Man, Ordinary Joel and Thy like this. -

I could be biased but I feel like he murked electronic on almost every song except for Ezekiel’s Wheel. Def had more presence than him. Especially on tracks like:
Ordinary Joel, skip and Michael Myers like this.(This ad goes away when signing up)
