Feb 14, 2015 They're operating in different lanes. Drake doesn't really try to occupy the lane Kendrick has and Kendrick occasionally dabbles in Drake's lane.
Feb 14, 2015 I agree but in terms of commercial success and always killing the game, Drake is in a league of his own. IMO Kendrick is close but guy hasnt put out an album for over 2 years
Feb 14, 2015 Yes, if you like rappers for how much money they make and how much buzz they generate, sure. Take Care - NWTS was two years. It's not an uncommon gap. Not to mention how many features Kendrick did in 2012. He's been touring after becoming one of the biggest names in rap music. That's half the game. His album is shaping up to be a lot more substantive and ambitious than anything Drake has ever put out. Again. Not even a knock on Drake. Just saying there are arguments for and against. Kanye's fans would say this is a battle for second place anyway... and that's not a hard argument to make either.
Feb 14, 2015 I didnt once say i like rappers for how much money they make, im just saying noones touching drake on a commercial level. 2 year gap isn't uncommon, but its been 2 years and around 4 months with still no release date. We'll see when he releases his album if it will be more substansive and ambitious, but until then it's all speculation. Don't get me wrong i'm a Kendrick fan, it's just anything Drizzy does outshines anyone in rap. Kendrick releases Blacker the Berry which is fire and everyone forgets about it the next day cause of IYRTITL.
Feb 14, 2015 After multiple listens my feelings really haven't changed about this project. Overall it's just an okay project, a lot of forgettable tracks, I feel like Drake is rapping on auto pilot a lot throughout this project and just comes off as really uncharasmatic. Production is good throughout, I enjoyed quiet a few of the hooks/choruses on here and thought some of them were kind of wasted tbh. Definitely a couple gems in here though, 6pm In New York, You and the 6, Jungle. Someone needs to make Eminem listen to 6pm in New York so he can hear how multi's should be used.
Feb 14, 2015 Jay making 5 million off of his zero effort album prior to releasing it out does anything Drake has done financially. Raw sales-wise I'm pretty sure Em's weak a--- albums have sold more. I think his numbers are better than Kanye and Kendrick though. When Drake releases Take Care 3.0 and Kendrick releases a piece that embodies the current racial climate, we can come back to this and say I'm a prophet I guess. We have no reason not to suspect this is the case. A Kendrick single overshadowed by an entire surprise Drake project? Who could've known?! Kendrick was really looking to make a catchy, popular hit when he settled on a complex and polarizing topic. Still, not like I'm playing TBTB at a party. Hop off of his jock. Stop acting like it's not a dead heat between them, despite the fact it's apples and oranges anyway. Kanye's reputation with the critics, Kendrick's with the heads, and Drake's with everyone else are all legitimate. I don't think there's a quality gap worth arguing over. GOAT is an immature concept that sparks futile discussions like this. The music I appreciate the most often comes down to how well I relate to it. To me, that's the most meaningful quality music can have. Other people seek out eccentricity or technical skill or obscurity or nostalgia or emotion or energy etc. The way we define what makes this music "better" than that music is so nuanced and personal and ever-changing that I don't see the point in pretending we're objective. At least not in some broad all-encompassing way.
Feb 14, 2015 Someone's catching feelings saying no ones touching drake. I like drake and Kendrick but i ain't a stan. Cole my favorite rapper. All i said is no one is touching him commercially, no need to get sensitive. Drake made a throwaway track the hottest track of 2014 ('i' was clearly made for commercial purposes). And i was obviously talking about New School rappers. Still though, only rapper that still sells more than drake is probably Em. But there's no denying Drake's Albums are not quality. We'll see how Kendrick's album is whenever it comes out, But if you wanna be a prophet go for it.
Feb 14, 2015 Nah, he called for it. Tryna enlighten these shrimp d----s is "being sensitive" now. Feels like getting the ladle slapped out your hand at a soup kitchen.
Feb 14, 2015 Alright so most of these songs are pretty good but it really doesn't matter what order you chose to listen to the tape. A great compilation of songs considering we should be getting VFT6 at some point this year
Feb 14, 2015 The back of the tape is now warming up for me. Clearly listened to the front too much. Great mixtape.
