Feb 17, 2015 At first, I was disappointed by exactly how unambitious this project was for Drake, but now I appreciate how far in his comfort zone it is. That said, I'm still not one to label its saminess "cohesive" as opposed to "repetitive". Definitely drags for me. Having the tape be so easy to listen to in chunks remedies that to some degree. My biggest concern is exactly how long it will remain enjoyable given that the teaser tape was fairly representative of the project and fizzled out relatively quickly. RTJ releases do the same thing for me, so I suspect it's all a personal preference thing.
Feb 17, 2015 I think both descriptors apply. It's definitely a cohesive project, but tends to be very monotone in sections.
Feb 17, 2015 a project being cohesive has to do with more than just the aesthetic quality of the album itself, though. themes/content/narrative etc all play a part, so I don't think "cohesive" and "repetitive" are really about the same quality, per say.

Feb 17, 2015 I assume you're referring to lyrical constructs when you refer to "themes/content/narrative". The main thing I'm referring to is the production where it's completely accurate to use them interchangeably imo. You can argue you that the beats compliment each other in their similarities (use of negative space, watery effects, Started From The Bottom influence) or that they run together and get stale regardless of what words you choose to represent this quality. Not really one for a semantic argument. Thought I'd elaborate anyway.
Feb 17, 2015 No, yeah for sure, I completely get what you're saying. I think NWTS is a actually a pretty good example of what you're describing in general.
Feb 17, 2015 Jungle....d--- what a great ending. 6 PM In New York is great to. Drizzle telling the game.... kind of regret putting 5 AM In Toronto on my cd of it but meh. Still a solid track, could always hit skip to start it over anyways.
Feb 17, 2015 2nd verse of Used To might be my favorite off this joint dance our daaaaaance, watch me daaance
Feb 17, 2015 Fair enough. I don't mind if the vibe carries a song I just feel like the verses carried no weight whatsoever
Feb 17, 2015 I think it's suppose to come off like that. More of a cocky tone than a serious one. I think it's good, but to each their own!
Feb 17, 2015 I mean I respect him because he does explain his point of view but I almost never agree with him. Like in his Drake review he basically stated that this was the first Drake project where he felt Drake had a lot of confidence. Ummmmm Tuscan Leather? The Language? Pound Cake? All Me? How does he not sound confident on those tracks?
Feb 17, 2015 yeah same. im not the biggest drake fan but even i know thats bs. His other projects were easily better and he showed confidence. To me though, Drake's flow has gotten too repetitive especially with similar beats. Its a boring tape aside from a song or two
Feb 17, 2015 LOL! Fantano liked this. His credibility is shifting downward. What a Baroque Posterboy For Hipster-Stoked Newfaggotry. He should stick to Alternative Genres.
Feb 17, 2015 legend feels like soooo good might be legend>tuscan leather might be better than over my dead body.... nah but its really good
