    It shouldn't be the only way for a woman to gain recognition or make a living, but they should be free to express themselves how they please. Beyonce's message of self-empowerment doesnt lose value because she seems to be "selling sex" as well -- it strengthens it if anything. Same with Nicki. They're making the CHOICE to be proud of their body, despite who that may make uncomfortable

    I was thinking this the other day

    Related, a friend told me about this D'Angelo interview the other day that's really interesting, basically once he started to get really famous, girls at his shows would be more excited about his body than his music, and he had no clue how say it how he felt about it. Then the interviewer filled in saying that's exactly what objectification is, and that's how women feel all the f---ing time.

    That kind of put it into perspective for me (and D'Angelo). Unfortunately it's so prevalent in female artists (and females in general) that it's accepted

    Yup! I can't remember if he did Breakdown when I saw him the very first time on that Cole World tour, but I NEED that in my ears live.

    word would be great to see that interview. I think the worst thing is that objectification for women is so normal that a lot still play up to it and base their confidence on it as well #norolemodelz

    dont think its wrong for someone, regardless of gender, to be proud of their sexuality


    i get you're probably referring to the lyrics about wanting to be the woman her man wants and s---, but as the lupe song says -- context matters. so i guess i can see it from both sides....i think its important someone who's clearly a strong individual like beyonce to flaunt whatever she pleases -- but without proper context young kids will ALWAYS be influenced by media they absorb. thats where parent and school come into play.
