I remember hearing about Eminem prior to SSLP, but I didn't know what he looked like, or who he was. I remember when My Name Is came out, I thought he was like a gimmick of NSYNC or something. Then my friends told me to check out SSLP, and said it was amazing, and it was.
It's easily his most creative album. He didn't have to "rap about himself" the whole album for it to be extremely entertaining. It was great story telling.
I know it hasn't aged well like TES. His delivery wasn't really the greatest either, I didn't like the nasally sound. MMLP/TES had his best delivery. However, I remember the first time listening to this album, and I legit couldn't wait to hear the next song, because of how off the wall the album was. MMLP was a similar feel too, but much darker.
People are so used to his immature humor now, that it really takes away from how great this album was at the time. Songs like Guilty Conscience, 97 Bonnie and Clyde, My Fault, As The World Turns were so out of the norm for hip hop. All but one of those songs had NOTHING to do with his personal life either.pluto✰, Mike Tyson, FuxWitMe and 1 other person like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -
