Breaking Bad was better in...
- It's protagonists performance.
- It's best episode, in my view, towers above anything else.
- It's fifth and second seasons (The forth is incredible and the first is on a par.)
- It's supporting characters are, in the long run, better.
- It's use of sophisticated literary techniques.
- It's incredibly written plot arc.
- Shock value and ability to throw in twists (see Face Off, Ozymandias, Dead Freight, Half Measures, ABQ, Phoenix and Full Measure for proof.)
- Focusing on very few characters it masterfully tells its tale through the eyes of a character who transforms stunningly.
- Its looks, set pieces, clothing, attention to detail and its slickness.
While The Wire was better in...
- Realism.
- Cultural significance and worldly relevance.
- It has the best season ever.
- Dialogue and pacing.
- Nailing different factions of society and presenting them in a neutral light to its audience.
- Its multi-layered world is spectacular.
- It's representation of drug gangs and street life.
- It gives you a better idea of social predicaments of these people and people like them in the real world and their standing in the world.
- It's ambition.

Rewatched season 5 this past week. Objectively, 4 is the best season but 5 is hands down my favorite season. I've always enjoyed the newspaper characters(Scott >>>>), I love McNulty and the serial killer storyline(no idea why so many have a problem with it) and obviously Marlo and Omar are both in rare form.
Hands down my favorite season.Lamont, Meero, Radeem and 1 other person like this. -

The Wire is the best written TV crime drama of all time. Breaking Bad is great too but the overall story and message of The Wire trumps it. As far as the video is concerned, S2 and S5 of The Wire are great. I haven't heard as many people complain about S5 as S2. The series finale is one of the greatest finales of all time. S2 was great and when you look back, they needed to do that season to establish how the drugs were being brought in. It also showed that d--- dealing isn't just a Black problem. The scope of The Wire is much larger than Breaking Bad.DKC, Oldboy, Meero and 1 other person like this. -

Also in my opinion The Wire is much much more rewarding in a rewatch. This s--- is even better the second time through, I swear. You pick up on all kinds of little details like Rawls extra police work, s--- like that.DKC, game time67 and Epitome like this. -

Caught a lot of the episodes during the marathon the past few days. I really need to do a full rewatch soon. I've always said this but I'll never understand the hate for season 5 of The Wire. For me it's second only to season 4 in the series. -

I love Breaking Bad so much.
But The Wire gets my vote only because it had a wealth of characters who carried the show equally. McNulty was the main character sure, but characters like Bodie and Michael were super relatable characters who had a big part in the show.
Even Stringer when he was f---ing D'Angelo's girl
The relationship between Herc and Carver
McNulty's series of unfortunate events when it came to women
The excellent story with the focus on the interpersonal relationships put it over the top for me
But I love Breaking Bad so much -

Personally I love both shows, and its difficult to decide, they're both from different eras, with amazing cast, story, cinematography, realistic, acting, real-world connections, etc...
